IT IS NOT ACCURATE, IT DROPS FERTILIZER WHEN YOU DON'T WANT IT TOO, IT IS A CHEAP POOR DESIGN.
Take a look at the gap from where the holes are at the bottom to let your fertilizer through, and the gate that pulls back to let it through, it is a huge gap, so when you are walking down your driveway, or in an area you have already covered it just keeps spreading. I have tried 2 of these and they are both terrible especially when spending $50+

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Al This spreader fails on every level
Bought this spreader after my previous Scott's spreader rusted through. Since this was all plastic figured would never have to worry about rust, however, this spreader spreads at a rate that is over twice the amount suggested by the Scott's settings on the bag. This is very helpful for Scott's bottom line by dumping twice as much product on the ground but it isn't good for the lawn or my wallet.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Chris Improper calibration from the factory
Sadly I had to return this product after first use :-( I bought this to replace my AccuGreen 2000 product, which held up wonderfully for 10-years until the plastic adjustment components failed me this year. Fresh from the store (with zip ties and labels still attached) this product was improperly calibrated. I went to spread a bag of Scott's Weed & Feed at the recommended 5 3/4 setting, the result being a very visible and hefty dumping of fertilizer. To put this in perspective my entire yard generally required 2,000 sq. ft. of fertilizer with my AccuGreen 2000, with the new Classic Drop Spreader I used 2,500 sq. ft. of fertilizer in a 500 sq. ft. area. When I realized i immediately washed the fertilizer off. Unfortunately this still burned out most of my back lawn.
Scott's really needs to revisit the calibration line for this spreader. When the nice folks at Home Depot showed me the calibration screw upon return, we were all shocked that we couldn't move it without the aid of a wrench. Which begs the question of how this product could become so out of tolerance in shipping. Even with the responses I've seen from the Scott's reps here, I can't put my trust in another one of these drop spreaders. The AccuGreen system was great? Why go away from a good product, only to replace it with such a lemon?
In the meantime, I am once again searching for a new spreader....or perhaps I can find a nice, used AccuGreen on CraigsList.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by dwhit32 Great Spreader but......
Love the spreader but trying to figure out the application rates is a little work. I was applying the Scotts Winter weed and feed....the suggested setting on the spreader is 6. However at that rate my bag of weed and feed ( which should cover 5,000 sq. feet) covered only 1,000 sq feet!!!! I had planned to use the one bag for my front and backyard but because I went by the recommended settings I had to buy another bag.
So..... reading the application rate on the bag it suggests an application rate of nearly 3 lbs of product per 1000 sq feet....so with that information I set my spreader to setting #2 and got the appropriate amount dispensed from the spreader.
A little confusing.....but still love the spreader and Scotts products!

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Ahines1 Big disappointment regarding this product
This spreader constantly needs me to bounce it or move it around so that the stuff inside leave to container and get on to the ground. It is a pain to use and whatever is inside does not spread evenly and the grade of descent is not steep enough to have all the product get to the ground evenly. Takes me much longer than it should to use the product as I have to make sure the stuff comes out and does not get caught. Bad design, hard to use and overall very poor.
