The mantle was just what we needed to finish our new fireplace. Great price, under $100 and super easy to install.

This mantel is sanded and filled such that it was pretty much ready for priming and painting out of the box. The craftsmanship of the mantel itself is pretty good, the top sounds sort of hollow when you set something on it due to the thickness, but it isn't a big deal. They supply what is approximately a 2x4 cut in half lengthwise into a strip to serve as the mount that you attach to the wall, and then you attach the mantel down onto the top of the strip. This works decently though I may do something a little different to permanently install it, as their instructions suggest the strip and the mantel be attached with liquid nails, which is of course going to destroy it if you want to be able to remove it. I have cabling I want to be able to access on rare occasion behind it, so I am probably going to figure out a way to use some angle steel to be able to have it hang more securely without needing to use glue/adhesive as well as the screws.
It was really well packed within two cardboard layers and padding, however the corners of the wood were a little crushed.
The tag inside the mantel says that it is Made in Vietnam for Foster Mantels.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Scooby Beautiful Mantel!
This mantel was very easy to install but we were surprised that the hardware didn't come with it. We purchased screws, finishing nails, and glue which was easy enough. After painting, the mantel is very beautiful and was a wonderful addition to our decor.

I am having trouble finding the right mounting hardware, but not the fault of the product. I think your retail store should stock the required Molley screws.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by James Very nice mantel/shelf. Real wood. Easy installation.
This Foster Mantels Berkeley Cap is very attractive and is made entirely of wood, including the parts you donât see when itâs installed. It can be used as a decorative shelf or an elegant, ornate fireplace mantel. I ordered this item in the 60 inch length (itâs also available in 72 inch length) for use as a wall shelf. The shelf arrived quickly and it was immediately obvious to me that it was packaged with extreme care, with cardboard bumpers along each corner of the inner-box which was completely covered with bubble wrap, and placed inside of an outer shipping carton. The dimensions of the shelf are 60 inches across the top, tapering to 53 inches at the bottom (which is relevant if you plan to use as a mantel) and 8 inches wide. Dentil molding is featured on the sides and across the entire length of the mantel for added visual interest. Detailed installation instructions and a wooden bracket (the dimensions of which are roughly 2 inches x 2 inches x 48 inches) to support attachment of the shelf to the wall are included, but hardware was not included in the packaging. A few wood screws and finishing nails are needed. The first step in the installation process, whether you use as a shelf or a mantel, is to determine the height of the shelf/mantel, locate the wall studs and using a level, mount the wooden bracket horizontally across the wall using nails or screws (again, not included). Note that holes arenât pre-drilled in the bracket, so Iâd recommend pre-drilling to avoid splitting the wood. The back of the shelf is open to receive the wooden bracket. Once the shelf is installed over the bracket, finishing nails are then used to secure the shelf to the wood bracket to complete the installation. This shelf looks great unpainted, but I plan to prime the bare wood and paint to coordinate the shelf with my furnishings. The length and depth of this shelf make it extremely useful for displaying family photos, antiques and collectibles and knick-knacks. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this item and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a decorative, well-made, real wood wall shelf or mantel to enhance the appearance of their fireplace.
