Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it Good flushing capacity. Not too wide. Simple, timeless design. February 13, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't buy this toilet This toilet looks very nice and even flushes well with the use of less water. Unfortunatly, after only having it for 6 months the refill valve has started leaking and the water never stops entering the toilet. So much for the low flow water savings. Well it comes with a 5 year warranty. Great right? Not really I have been waiting on the replacement part for almost two months now. Every time I call to find out when I should be expecting it they give me a later "expected" ship date. At the moment it is expected to ship in another 4 weeks. How can a company have one of the most common parts to fail be back ordered going on 3 months now. July 12, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by First one was defective My wife and I decided to replace one of the builder grade toilets in our home with an elongated "comfort height" toilet that had dual flush. We wanted to do this for comfort and water savings. This American Standard toilet available at Home Depot seemed like an excellent value, as it appears to be the identical model (with a different model #) that is sold for quite a lot more with other retailers. Purchased the toilet and brought it home. I've installed toilets before as well as replacing the guts in them so was not surprised by the easy directions. Unfortunately when I attached the tank to the toilet we ran into some big problems. Tightening the tank bolts up with the supplied plastic "tools" that contain the washer resulted in a wobbly tank that was not making porcelain to porcelain contact as indicated in the manual. I suspected maybe a little more torque was needed so I used a screwdriver to support the bolts and tried tightening a little further with standard tools. Unfortunately this did not cure the wobble and now I could not get the bolts to back out. Packed the whole toilet into the car and back to Home Depot where they had to find someone in the plumbing department to take a look. Department person agreed it was "not right" and at my urging we opened another one. This one went together properly with normal amount of tightening. Store personnel proposed that maybe the bad one had a casting/forming problem causing the bowl and tank not to come together properly. Surprisingly bad QC from a top notch brand like American Standard. As I was leaving the store they were arguing about how to ship it back since they could not get it back in box without finding a way of cutting the stuck bolts off. Took the replacement home and install was pretty ho hum... although I will note that with just hand tightening of the supply line to the inlet valve the entire fill valve slipped loose and banged against the inside of the tank resulting in me having to re-adjust it. Toilet seat is slow close but a little flimsy compared to the denser plastic or wood models. I do like the elevated height and dual flush will save us a ton of water. Looks pretty nice. Worried about parts availability but hopefully with it in and working I won't have to deal with that for several years. All in all this is a decent toilet, comes with good accessories and should normally be a pretty snappy installation... assuming you get one that works. Searching the internet I do see that others have run into the "wobbly tank" problem and that in some cases American Standard have sent them an alternate tank gasket to install to cure it (I assume it's thinner/lower than the one in the box). This really shouldn't be necessary, they should be able to do a basic inspection before they leave the factory. Recommended? Yes, but just barely. Hopefully if I replace any other ones I won't run into the same issues. February 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Avoid this toilet! While it may sound strange to give a product a good rating then say do not buy it, the reality in this case is that you cannot get spare parts for the inner workings. American Standard who manufactures the toilet exclusively for Home Depot does not have spare parts. You do have a 5-year warranty on it, but the only way to get a spare is to call them and hope they have some available. Another review points out this may never happen. So the recommendation is to avoid it unless you plan on replacing it in a 5 years or so when the components fail. November 4, 2012
