I've had this product for about 13 years and it has held up well. It is powerful enough to take care of my trimming needs. I use it frequently on a very steep hill that cannot be mowed. When I ran out of line a neighbor let me use her gas trimmer and it was not very effective on the hill as my weed eater has been.
I'm going to have to replace the shield now because it broke last year and I've had to tape part of it to keep it from falling off the unit. Only downfall for me would be this shield breaking at the tabs and the difficulty finding the right line at my local stores now. You'd think if they sold the product that they would carry the line, but not anymore.

This is my third purchase of this model...I have worn out two others in about 7 years. As they age they get a bit floppy (tired joints), and the spool doesn't always advance automatically (I just pull it forward manually), but, for the price I am a repeat buyer...no gasoline noise, and easy to handle.

Bought the electric line trimmer as a replacement for my tired gas trimmer.
For the 100 or so yards of trimming required around the house, the readily available outside electric, and the unit cost v. noise, fuel mixing, habitual starting issues I couldn't justify another gas mix trimmer. Now, just how well does this electric unit stand up to the gas? The electric trims with enthusiasm. Lugging about the power cord can be a nuisance but so can the noise and smell of the gas engine.
Bearing in mind that the transition from gas to electric is quite a step this trimmer performs at or above my expectations.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Frustrated Terrible product, do not buy!
The push button feed does not work. The spool tangles even when it is the original spool. The line breaks about every minute. The cord lock does not hold the cord. The spool caps comes off , especially since you have to manually pull out the string so often. You will spend more time pulling string out than doing the job.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Dinnie I love the weed eater company
But every piece of equiment I buy breaks and I have bought the upgrade every year. I started with a gas trimmer which broke the first season. Couldn't get it started.I assumed it was my fault. I next bought a battery trimmer and the safety guards broke. This year I bought the top of the line electric trimmer. And the safety guards broke within the first month of using it. I do not want to communicate with Weed Eater by doing a procuct review but after searching and searfing, this is the only site I could find to talk to them. I seriously love the way that weed eaters work but now I am on a fixed income and cannot afford to keep buying new products.
