Typically I like to wait before reviewing a product, but I'm so impressed with this little guy that I wanted to do it right away. I bought this last night in anticipation of today's 90+ degree forecast. I'm in a small one-bedroom apartment and only have an a/c in my bedroom and it wouldn't cool the whole apartment. I decide to buy this little window unit, as it's one of the few that would fit in my windows, which are only 20 inches wide. I put the window kit on last night and waiting until this morning to put it in the window. I was able to do it alone, as it's not particularly heavy or large. With my narrow windows, I was able to use the top and right pieces, and just put the extra foam to the left where there was about 1/2 inche opening. It is not nearly as loud as I expected. It's probably just as loud as the box fan I have in the hallway. My apartment is a nice, comfortable temperature while it is nearly 90 outside. I would highly recommend this air conditioner!

Great value! Super light, super easy to install! Cools the room quickly. Great bang for your buck! Too bad they seem to have gone up $20 since last year...

I purchased this 5,000 BTU, GE air conditioner at the HomeDepot to cool my 6' X 12' enclosed cargo trailer thinking that it was too small for the job - boy was I wrong.
After insulating the trailer from top to bottom with R-TECH Styrofoam bought at homedepot as well, my trailer is NOW like a walk-in freezer. No joke, it is COLD. I love it!
When the temperature outside is in the high 90's, I keep the AC on the low setting. Mind you, it has only two settings for the fan, and two for the AC, which is high and low.
The compressor hum is impressively quiet while standing outside next to it. With the fan blowing on low, I could still feel the subtle cold breeze at the opposite end of the trailer twelve-feet away.
Needless to say, it's very rare that I write product reviews, but the performance of this GE air conditioner has been so awesome I had to write one and include a few photos. The unit measures exactly sixteen inches wide by eleven and three-quarter inches tall, measured at the very back edge of the housing.
Thanks to the Home Depot in Silverdale for keeping this item in stock. Great customer service too.The attendant on hand un-boxed the unit so that I could get an precise measurement as the actual size wasn't listed on the cover.
I would not hesitate to purchase this product again should the need arise.

Hard to believe this AC has gotten so many positive reviews. General Electric made this unit as inexpensive as they possibly could, and so didn't add the internal control device (I can't think of the name at the moment) that regulates the core temperature of the unit. What happens (constantly) is that without this critical (missing) control, the air conditioner turns into a refrigerator. This means that it drops the temperature below the room's dew point and causes condensation to build up on the cooling coil, which then turns to ice, completely blocking air flow. The only thing you can do then is to turn it to "fan only" in order to defrost it and dry it out, or turn it off and use a hair dryer.

I needed a little boost for the ac in my fifth-wheel RV and since I live and travel in mostly dry climates, I was looking at the various "swamp coolers" available. Due to the size and cost of those I decided to take a chance on this unit and I'm glad I did! Built a custom installation that took a couple of hours so that I can drop this out of the opening and reinstall the window in an hour or so. Tried it out for the first time yesterday. The outside temp was 103 and this little unit along with the top unit of the RV kept the inside temp at 78 all day. Very quiet. Am looking forward to using this unit for many years. A great buy!!!!
