This kit is easy to install. Luckily I had old recessed lighting already in place, so all I had to do was take out the old and replace it with these. The only difficult task was finding an LED dimmer switch that worked with these lights. I first tried the Lutron Model CTCL-153PDH-WH, but the lights would flicker at the brightest setting and I couldn't get the dimmest setting to work very well either. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. I adjusted the lights using the small adjustment dimmer on the switch, but that didn't help. I returned it and bought the Lutron DVCL-153PR-WH (pictured) and it works flawlessly. I get the dimmest and brightest settings with no problem and no flickering. I guess your mileage may vary, but this is what worked for me. One switch controls 3 lights and the other controls 5. The light provides even coverage across the floor. They are a little pricey, but you get what you paid for.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by GABBB Great product. Great light in a hard to reach place.
I purchased four of these units about six months ago to install in our front hall over our stairs. It took me six months to get around to doing it.
When I saw HD was stocking these kits with the LED lights built in, I figured it would be the best bet for the place we wanted to install them. Since they'd be over the stairs, I really didn't want to have to try to replace the bulbs with ladder precariously placed.
These lights should last longer than I will in this house :-).
I've installed recessed lights before, and these were really a breeze. I did have to muddle through the attic to run a supply line and run lines between the lights. Measuring and marking for the holes was the most difficult task as I wanted the light in pairs, so they had to line up and be parallel.
I used my roto-zip tool to cut the holes. Then I pulled the electrical supply line in.
The only TOUGH part was trying to use the provided slots to pull the wire into the junction box. The tabs are designed so you don't need a strain relief nut, but I couldn't work the wire in. I ended up applying the strain relief nuts on the provided knock outs to get the wires in.
Inside the junction box, it was quite easy to hook all of the wires together using the provided orange clips (just strip the wire and insert).
Once they were wired, it was easy slipping the housing into the hole, securing it, and installing the light itself. Note that you can hook up two more lights from the one you install (room for up to three sets of wires in the box). So you can "daisy chain" from one light to a series, assuming the circuit can handle it.
Unlike others, I've not experienced the turn on delay. I guess perhaps we were used to our old CFLs taking FOREVER to get to full brightness. These look so nice and do such a nice job of lighting the stairs that my wife now wants to (a) repaint the stair walls and (b) hang some art work there. They've really brightened up an otherwise drab area.
Although they are lower wattage equivalents, the light they give off is PERFECT for this area.
I loved these LEDs so much, I installed two more recessed LEDs (higher lumens though) in the hall to replace the two older light fixtures we had there. I hope to eventually have LEDs everywhere as my older bulbs burn out any my supply of CFLs dwindles.
Also, I just installed a Lutron dimmer with these, and it works great, and there is NO buzzing. This was one of the dimmers on the recommended list from Lithonia Lighting.
This is a great product and a great project for a DIYer.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by jstilley100 Easy Install, Great product
I replaced two dated pendant lights over a breakfast bar with this. As this was my first use of the Lithonia, I was initially concerned with the color temperature of the light. In my past experience, the LEDs tend to be too blue. Much to my surprise, the color temperature is very good. Not yellow at all, but trending more towards the GE Reveal light spectrum. Very pleasing and easy on the eyes. The light itself is not too focused and gives a broad enough pattern to light the area but still give a "directional" quality. The only thing to get used to is the slight delay from the time you turn on the switch until the light actually comes on. By slight, I mean 1/2 to 3/4 of a second. It took us 2 days to get used to it, but now we don't even notice it at all. In addition to the energy savings and the GREAT look of recessed vs fixtures, there is one other unintended bonus. These lights run COOL. The other pendants (that had CFL spots) still gave off enough heat to be noticable to our friends sitting at the breakfast bar. These lights put off no heat at all. Installation took 20 minutes (and that was mostly because I slightly undercut the size of the hole and had to enlarge it by 1/8 of an inch). This is a SUPER easy product to retrofit your existing fixtures. A ladder, utility knife, and rudimentary knowledge of electrical and you are good to go. This is a TON easier than installing a ceiling fan. If you have ever replaced a light fixture, you can do this. We also priced this complete unit vs purchasing bulbs and fixtures separately and the price difference was only $3-$5 and the fact that I didn't have to cobble a bunch of things together and the install looks flawless was definitely worth the extra $3. GREAT JOB Lithonia.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Myra Good value However beware
I have purchased 14 if these. However the last 7 I purchased were wired inocrrectly. The female connector should be on the light and the male on the housing. The last 7 I bought were reversed. Fortunately I have not installed the 7 yet. The manufacturer is replacing them at no charge. The manufacturer says they have had no other complaints and were unaware. You should make sure to get the correct ones or you will not be able to purchase replacement bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by mcxstar01 Transformed the look of my kitchen
Pleased with this product. My kitchen (approx 11' x 5' to light) had a single dated fixture installed in the middle of the ceiling, I bought 6 of these to install. At first I was thinking about going with 4 of them based on reviews and my knowledge of recessed lighting - I decided to go with 6 because if I was going to install new lighting I wanted it to be bright. They were easy to install, easy to wire up and I had no problem finding a dimmer switch at Home Depot combatible with these fixtures. Would definitely recommend this product to the average DIYer, they completely transformed the look of my kitchen making it bright and crisp.
