I've finally found a correctly shaped LED bulb to replace some halogen PAR30L floods...with good color. Yes, there is a small amount of blue color at very low dimming levels, but at 75% or higher, these give similar color as standard halogen.
The LEDs give off very little heat (compared to halogen)...result is kitchen is cooler...I can actually feel the difference (I'm 6' plus and ceiling cans are at standard 8' height). No more hot lights.
Price is still an important decision...like most LEDs these are expensive bulbs. For now, I am replacing halogen lights that get more than 5 hours of use per day as payoff will be quickest.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Firebat These bulbs are pricey, but they get 'er done!
We tried both the 65W LED light bulbs, and this one - the 75W bulbs - and found it to be worth the extra $13.00 to buy the 75's. They really worked well. We also recommend the "Daylight" color bulbs. There aren't many choices "out there" for this type of bulb, so we DO like the Phillips brand of this bulb. Hopefully, LED light bulbs will come down in price, eventually, but as old as we are, these bulbs will probably outlast us!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by d1stance Great product, but returning because it doesn't meet my spec
So I'm on the second iteration of finding LED lights that work with my living room dimmer. The first iteration was with the EcoSmart brand, which unfortunately did not shut off completely with my dimmer. Even in the off position, there would be some light. This Philips brand bulb does in fact turn off completely, which is a plus. The light color is also quite pleasant, slightly whiter than the common soft white.
Unfortunately, these bulbs do not diffuse their light that well. So I found darker gaps in between bulb areas. Imagine spotlights. It would perhaps work well if my fixtures were closer together/ I had more fixtures, but as it is, the bulbs do not look great in my living room. Be prepared for that situation with these bulbs. Otherwise, they are great.
Off to the third iteration, perhaps trying out the Cree.

I really like this bulb, but it is not right for our application. The light from this bulb is bright white as advertised, no bluish tint I could notice. The light is instant on and quiet, no hum. These are narrow focused beams of light, too focused for our use.
We have three recessed lights over our dining room table and had three PAR30 halogen lights. The halogen bulbs were frosted and nicely diffused the light over the table. This bulb is brighter but the light is much more sharp and causes shadows. The light covers the table but dims considerably by the time the light reaches the walls. I will try again with a BR30 and hope the Bulging Reflector will have a wider beam of light. And again the lamp will have to have a 3000K temperature rating for the bright white we want at the dining room table. As far as I can tell Phillips does not make a bulb in this configuration and we don't want the yellowed light of the 2700K bulb they do offer.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Bill Bright, even, comfortable LED replacement for halogen spot
We tried five of these bulbs as an alternative to a 65 watt halogen spot bulb that was causing flickering issues with our dimmers and casting a distracting chandelier-like light scattering effect on our conference table surface. The result was a bright, evenly lit, comfortable meeting space, with a dim-able, eco-friendly, LED bulb that draws only 13 watts of energy. We were so impressed with the results that we quickly replaced the other 15 bulbs in the room with these. Better lighting results, and only 260 watts total versus 1300 watts with the previous bulbs. That's the very definition of a win/win solution.
