Rated 5 out of 5Â by surferdude great product; wonderful results
The installation of this product was straight forward. Mounting it on a 3/4 inch piece of plywood nailed on the gable wall created a great seal. Although you can hear the fan from outside the house, it is not too bad in the room directly under it. A kill switch was wired into the circuit and placed inside the closet of the room directly below the fan. However, my wife doesn't find the fan noise disturbing and she noticed a marked difference in the temperature of the house after the fan was installed. This product performs as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Joroco How I Installed the Hot Air Remover in the Attic
After noticing the 15 year old home we purchased and moved into in Virginia had no attic exhaust system, and being involved in multi-tasking to the eyeballs for over 90 days in home move-in chores, I first contacted local professional a.c. and handy-folk and the quotes I got made me wish I had not retired.
By cruising the Home Depot array of products in the store near us and reading the available reviews on-line, including additional units which are not carried in the local store, I picked out one of the Broan products, a 1600 CFM Gable Mount fan with thermostat and used the advice I saw in other reviews on-line at the Home Depot website for install tips.
The unit is up and working quite well. Although it can be heard while standing on our side driveway, it is not what I would call noisy and even in the room below the attic, an upstairs guest bedroom, the noise level, though noticeable, is nothing more than white noise IMO. That said, I did install a switch for shutting the fan off in the event of a maintenance issue or a guest concern. I did use a plywood backer board onto which the fan is mounted via the included metal brackets after I cut the hole to fit the 15" diameter sheet metal shroud around the fan and I did use foam insulation on the face of the mounting to absorb the limited vibration I noted and I used silicone sealant in the open spaces between my hole-cut and the metal fan shroud. I mounted the board with fan attached right behind and existing louvered gable screened opening high in the exterior wall at the eve.
Last evening after a warm day, I went up the stairs to the attic to check the temperature around 10 p.m. and and the air temperature in the attic was just about equal to the lowering outside temperature. The ventilator fan had already shut off via the thermostat control.
This purchase was made through the aegis of the Home Depot website, with pickup at an HD not far away in less than a week. My wife even obtained help from a customer service agent in Atlanta in combining this purchase with another which is a back order in order to receive a new resident discount. She/we could not have been happier with this little transaction.
We are regular customers of our Home Depot.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Norm 35316 works as designed
I purchased a house where the two old gable fans no longer were operational. I found the 35316 on-line at Amazon.com and ordered two fans. My contractor installed them with light switches so I could manually turn them off without using the built-in thermostats. As it turns out, one of the fans failed to work when I turned it on. The contractor checked that there was power to the fan. I called Broan and they immediately sent me a new thermostat and motor. As it turned out, the original motor was defective - DOA, but the thermostat was OK. I unbolted the fan from the housing and disconnected the wiring and installed the replacement motor into the housing and reconnected the wiring.
The customer service person was very helpful telling me that I needed about 4 square feet venting/fan for each fan to operate properly and that I should set the thermostat to about 30 degrees above the normal room temperature for each attic. This was very useful since the fan that was working was on all the time because I set the thermostat temperature too low at 80 degrees causing the fan to stay on all the time.
Broan makes good stuff! My stove top exhaust fan is still in perfect condition after 50 years of service. I highly recommend Broan for the quality of their products and honoring their warranties.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Smart67 The 35316 exhibits a horrible vibration that shakes the entire house.
Great potential if only the fan was balanced at the factory. Vibration is horrible.
