Rated 4 out of 5Â by PleasedWithMyADORA We like our new Adora
I did a lot of research before deciding on the GE Adora 27 cf, reading all of the reviews and recommendations available. We purchased the unit in July and thus far our only issue has been with delivery. Their are alot of nit-picky negatives in reviews that are really not an issue, at least not for us.
The deciding factor for me to purchase the GE over competitor was that it is made in Louisville, KY!
This particular model we chose because:
1) it didn't have alot of computerized extras that weren't necessities and would cost extra to fix.
2) the second ice maker in the freezer. This has turned out to be a very BIG PLUS, VERY GLAD we chose the second ice maker. Opted for the second icemaker based on the ice maker reviews for ALL of the refrigerators, not just GE. Ice makers are not what they used to be. So, when the one in the door breaks, we have a back up. The door ice maker keeps up for normal daily use. It does not make enough though for a 12-pk sized cooler. A few weeks after buying, my 15y.o. broke his collar bone. We went through alot of ice, even emptied the freezer compartment ice maker. It would take a while to make enough extra ice to put in the freezer with just the door unit. It does not make that much ice at one time.
Let me address complaints that others have noted:
Noise: not really an issue. My refrigerator is not built in, it is open on two sides . It does make noise, but not like my 22yr old compressor was making. It makes "whirring" sounds, nothing loud or obnoxious, just different. Sometimes you ask yourself, "what's that", "oh yeah, it's the refirgerator." We live in the country, in a single family home with no extraneous outdoor sounds. I am a light sleeper, this refrigerator is against our bedroom wall and right next to the bedroom door. It has never woken me up.
Ice Maker: Yes, you can hear the ice maker drop ice. Really folks, how long does that last and how often? The door ice maker doesn't jam up, but if it hasn't been used for a few days the ice lightly sticks together and won't dispense. Very easy to fix though. Open the door and give the bin a shake. Not so hard, not an inconvenience. As far as complaints about the ice spitting out and going all over the floor...hold the cup up a little higher and it won't happen.
Shelf height: Again, this hasn't been an issue for us. this unit has one split shelf that we keep slid back. We always have a tall Gallon pitcher of iced tea in the refrigerator and a pitcher of koolaid that fit nicely in front of the shelf (can probably get 2 or 3 2L bottles if you drink that much pop). Gallon jug of milk, juice cartons etc. easily fit under the shelf. On the short shelf, I keep my eggs, sour cream, margarine, the kids gogurt box. I am on the verge of being vertically challenged, sometimes if something small gets shoved to the back of my top shelf, I can't reach it. But I can't reach most of my cabinet shelves either.
Refrigerator temperature: Again, this has not been an issue for us. Our milk goes to the back, it lasts past the expiration date. No problems with other foods molding or spoiling even foods that have been in a few weeks.
Drawers: keeps fruits and veggies nice and fresh. I have the lunch meat and chesse drawer on cold.
Doors: read complaints about needing to close one door before another because of the middle piece. That had to have been a totally different make and model. You can open and close either door in any order. Once you get used to the new refrigerator and have a "layout" of what is where, you will not have to open both doors to see what is where.
Minor issues for me: I get caught trying to multi-task, you cannot dispense ice from left and open right side door at the same time. Sometimes, I wish the bottom drawer were two, so you don't have to open both doors. But then the flexibilty of having a larger drawer would be gone. I have never needed that, but maybe someday I will.
When we received our brand new refrigerator, it had a BIG dent in the top of the ice maker door. Needless to say, we were not very happy (it was 10:30 at night too). How could this get through Quality check? I was on hold a LONG time with Customer Service but each time I spoke with them, they were all very pleasant. After GE service came out to our house, we thought to fix it, but it was just to take a look. New door or new refrigerator? I didn't appreciate having to take another day off work and wait around for the service man. However, it was determined that this happened on delivery with other No explanantion given. I had to drive 1 hour each way back to Home Depot to get the dented unit replaced. Upon the delivery of second unit, found out from a more experienced delivery person: DO NOT take the doors off to get the refrigerator in the house. The handles come off easily and can get through a standard 33" door opening.
The protective plastic film over the SS: the delivery people must take their time removing this. Even though we did, there are still plastic frays at the seals. If you take the handles off, get the plastic film off before they put the handles back on. I wasn't thrilled with the service guys wanting to take a box cutter under the seals to remove the plastic, but where they did, there aren't any frays pieces sticking out.

Ice builds up in the freezer due to bad seals. We are having to have the seal replaced for the second time with in a year. Flawed design? Perhaps. Maybe they should think about redesigning the seal. Also, the top ice maker makes a solid block of ice, which can not be crushed. Constantly having to take ice blocks out of ice dispenser..

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Janet update to previous review- ice on floor and water dripping!
I'm updating my previous post. I've had this fridge for over a month now. The fridge is not noisy, and is really great in every aspect EXCEPT the ice dispenser clogs, the shape of the dispenser for the ice is not completely round and our ice scatters to the floor every time, even with large cups shoved all the way to the top, all the way back against the fridge. There is always falling on our floor. There is a note on the ice door that says what to do if the ice machine clogs. I just want a fridge that works properly. I don't want to have to manually unclog the ice every day. We got this fridge because our other fridge was old and leaking water. Now this one has a steady drip from the ice dispenser. The noise from the sound clips from the fridge options are excessively annoying and I don't like the blue fluorescent lighting for the dispenser either. These are minor issues. But I would return this fridge just because the ice is on my floor every single day. It's really unfortunate that GE messed up the design of the dispenser so badly. The fridge itself, is great, but I can't take it any more.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Janet very happy with the fridge... button sounds are annoying
I have had this fridge for over a week now. The fridge is great. There is a 'whine' from the compressor, but it is not bothersome. I usually don't even notice it. The most annoying thing is that the buttons seem like a cheap plastic and whenever I make a selection for ice or lock and unlock the controls so that my kids dont play with it, they make this really loud and annoying sound. It would be nice if I could turn that off. even though I wiped down the interior as instucted, my fridge still has this funny smell. I. think I am more sensitive to smells... I am hoping that new fridge smell will go away soon. The people who delivered the fridge were great and took their time to explain things to me.

Had this fridge delivered on Weds and are already returning it due to the noise level. The compressor emits a high pitched whine that kept me up at night. GE repairman came out and said it's normal, but agreed it was loud. No additional casing or buffering is available to make it quieter. Also, the buttons on the door for ice/water are needlessly noisy with no option to turn the sound off. Such a disapointment because it's a beautiful fridge otherwise.
