Rated 4 out of 5Â by Denise Exactly what I wanted (almost)
1-It is definitely the most beautiful exhaust fan/light combo I found after looking at what seems like every one in the universe online AND it looks amazing installed. It is great if you want something for an older home that looks somewhat period. I ordered the brushed nickel and am very happy with the finish.
2-Can be wired separately so that the lights and fan can be on separate switches. I wired mine so that the fan is on a digital timer and the lights are on a dimmer. Pretty proud of that, actually. Did not follow their wiring diagram exactly, but called to confirm that mine would be ok and they were very helpful.
3-Matching vanity light available, although I think this style is technically discontinued, so not available everywhere (not at Home Depot, for example).
Why it didn't get 5 stars:
1-I wish the Montecino style came with the round shades like the Garden District style does. The square shades look kind of more modern than I would like, but the medallion on the Garden District version isn't as nice as this one and I could not find a matching vanity light for the Garden District ANYWHERE. On the round shade version, it would be easy to switch out the glass shades if you wanted to customize. On this one, not so much as glass shades with square bases are less common, especially if you are looking for vintage.
2-The fan seems to have gotten a bit louder after a couple weeks. Not sure why. I checked the troubleshooting guide and followed those steps, but no change. It took me a bit to hook up the ducting on the attic side, but the increase in noise started before I did that. I was hoping that would fix it, but it did not. It is still much quieter than my old one.
3-I wish I had gotten the higher CFM version as the lower CFM still allows steam to build up in my bathroom (About 5x8 with 8 ft ceilings) during my shower. According to the calculator on the Hunter website, the lower CFMs should have been enough for my bathroom. To be clear, it does clear the air almost immediately as soon as the shower is off, but not while the shower is running. I can see the steam getting sucked in that direction, though, so it isn't useless, just a kind of "if I could do it over again" thing.
4-Installation of the medallion was a pain. The fan part=no problem. The wiring=no problem. But after that=annoying. There was this little cover to put in before you install the medallion, but the instructions were not clear and I had to just try it a bunch of different ways until it finally fit. And the little tension plug for where the wire enters the unit does NOT come in the box. It is such a small part, it seems like including it would have been nice.
FYI: The lights hang down at least 12 inches, so this would be better for bathrooms with somewhat higher ceilings. Mine are probably 8 feet (?) and I don't think I would use this for any ceiling lower than that.
Overall, I am very pleased.
