Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans do more than keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. With a variety of styles available including traditional, contemporary and designs for sports fans, kids' rooms and more, ceiling fans can complement any decor, while increasing your comfort and helping you save money on your energy bill.

Types of Fans
Indoor Ceiling Fans

INDOOR CEILING FANS

Maximize airflow and energy efficiency by choosing a fan sized for your room.

Most ceiling fans are designed for indoor use, however, you can also use outdoor fans inside when you find a style that enhances your decor.

Many ceiling fans come with light kits or are adaptable for use with lights. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) can be used in many fans to help you save energy and money, and add ambience.

Properly balanced fans prevent vibration, reduce noise, keep your fan from wobbling and operate more efficiently, important features for often-used fans in living areas or bedrooms.

Fans should be installed approximately 8 ft. from the ground. In rooms with 8 ft. or lower ceilings, use flush-mount fans that install flat against the ceiling.

OUTDOOR CEILING FANS

Use only outdoor or outdoor/indoor-rated ceiling fans outside, even on covered porches and patios. The motors and other internal parts are sealed to prevent moisture from getting inside.

Choose fans with blades that have been treated with a water-resistant or water proof finish.

Outdoor fans are manufactured to withstand temperature changes and humidity.

Many outdoor fans come with lights kits or are adaptable for use with lights. Be sure to choose light kits designed for use with outdoor fans.

ENERGY STAR QUALIFIED FANS

ENERGY STAR qualified ceiling fans can save you up to $170 on heating and cooling cost over the life of the fan.

Compact fluorescent light kits (CFL) added to your fan will make it 50 percent more efficient than conventional fans and lights.

In summer, run your fan counterclockwise to generate a breeze, help you feel as much as 7 degrees cooler and cut your cooling costs by up to 30 percent.

In the winter, run your fan clockwise to push warm air circulating near the ceiling down to better distribute heat throughout the room.

Look for ENERGY STAR qualified fans in a variety of styles to compliment any room or outdoor space.
