Replacing a 2-Wire Non-Polarized Plug on a Power Cord
A new plug does more than help prevent shocks or burns due to wear or damage. It also helps extend the life of your electrical devices. Wiring an electrical plug is a project you can easily do yourself with just a few common tools. While plug design may vary from device to device, this project guide will show you how to replace a 2-wire, non-polarized plug on a power cord. Before you begin your project, be sure to review any manufacturer’s instructions that came with the plug.
 

Follow These Steps

Step One
Cut off the Old Plug
Cut off the Old Plug
Cut end of cord even and clean. DO NOT slit or remove insulation.

Step Two
Open the Cover Entrance
Open the Cover Entrance

Using a small screwdriver, push assembly clip toward cover entrance to open.

Step Three
Insert Cord Through Assembly Clip
Insert Cord Through Assembly Clip
1. Align either side of cord with side of wiring channel marked with a "W".
2. Insert cord through assembly clip and into wiring channel up to "cord stop ribs".

Step Four
Put Cord in Wiring Channel

Put Cord in Wiring Channel

Press down on cord to seat in wiring channel.

Step Five
Close the New Plug

Close the New Plug

Fold device closed and press two halves together until assembly clip snaps in.
