Advisory: Portable Generator Hazards
Portable generators are useful when temporary or remote electric power is needed, but they can also be hazardous. The primary hazards to avoid when using a generator are carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from the toxic engine exhaust, electric shock or electrocution, and fire. Every year, people die in incidents related to portable generator use. Most of the incidents associated with portable generators reported to CPSC involve CO poisoning from generators used indoors or in partially-enclosed spaces.

Risk of Strangulation Prompts Recall to Repair Roller Shades
This recall involves custom-ordered made-to-measure manual roller shades. The shades were sold in a variety of colors, fabrics, and sizes. They have a label on an adhesive strip that connects the shade fabric to the roller tube that reads “Lutron Shading Solutions” and “800-446-1503.” The shade needs to be removed from the brackets and unrolled completely to access the label. The shade was sold with an orange, black and white hang tag warning consumers that “young children can STRANGLE in cord and bead chain loops.” However, the hang tag may have been discarded upon installation. Nearly all shades were professionally installed.

Single Meter Sockets Recalled Due to Fire and Electrocution Hazard
This recall involves single meter sockets sold by electrical supply distributors in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, and at local hardware stores in New York from May 2009 through August 2009. A short may occur while in use due to an incorrect bridge installed in the product, to which the meter clips are attached. If the manufacturing defect exists, all metal parts of the meter could create a shock or burns can occur if the cover is off and the meter socket is energized.

Recalls in Corded Window Treatments Due To Strangulation Hazard
The recall involves millions of window blinds with pull cords and inner cords that can form a loop and cause strangulation. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Window Covering Safety Council are announcing a recall to repair horizontal window blinds to prevent the risk of strangulation to young children. About 85 million window blinds are sold each year.

Ridgid Table Saws Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard
This recall involves Ridgid 10-inch table saws, model R4511, sold exclusively by The Home Depot. The recalled saws have manufacturing date codes between CD0829 and CD0837. The model number and manufacturing date code are located on a metal plate on the rear of the cabinet. Products with an “Arbor Inspected” sticker directly above the plate or an orange square on the outside of the package are not included in the recall.

Homelite, Husky and Black Max Generators Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
This recall involves Homelite and Husky brand generators sold exclusively at Home Depot stores and Black Max brand generators sold exclusively at Sam’s Club stores. Affected generators include Homelite models HG3500, HG3510, HG5700 and HG5700R, Husky models HU3650, HUCA5700 and HUCA7000 and Black Max models BM10700A, BM10700B, BM10711A, BM10700DG, BM10700R, BM10700BR & BM10722G. Generators included in this recall have manufacturing date codes between BML306-BMM151, CHL122-CHM151 and CRL153-CRM059. The model number and manufacturing date code are included on the data label located on the top or side of the generator engine. Products with a green “dot” on the outside of the package or a “silver dot” on the fuel gauge face are not included in the recall.

Blitz USA Recalls Enviro-Flo™ Plus Fuel Containers Due to Fire Hazard
The recall involves green Enviro-Flo Plus spouts used with 1 and 2 gallon fuel containers. Only spouts with manufacture date codes listed from 04/17/2009 through 04/19/2009 are included in the recall. The manufacture date code is etched into the side of the spout. The spouts were used on fuel containers with item numbers 81005 (1 gallon) and 81010 (2 gallon) printed on the labels. Date codes affected include:

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Intermatic, announce a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Intermatic Model ST01 and EI600 In-wall Electronic Timers
Units: About 240,000
Manufacturer: Intermatic Inc., of Spring Grove, Ill.
Hazard: When consumers trying to replace the timer’s battery place a metal object through the battery tray slot, the object can reach internal metal contacts, posing a shock hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received twelve reports of consumers receiving a minor shock while changing the timer’s battery.
Description: This recall involves the Intermatic in-wall electronic timers with model numbers ST01, ST01C, ST01AC, ST01AC70, ST01C70, ST01CL, EI600C, EI600LAC, EI600LAC8, EI600WC, and EI600WC8. This product is a lamp and appliance timer and typically takes the place of a standard wall switch. The timer is white, off-white, or almond and measures 2 1/2 inches high by 1 3/4 inches wide. Model numbers can be found on the packaging and on the instruction. In-Wall timers are included in this recall if (1) the brand name “Intermatic” is molded on the front of the timer cover door, (2) the timer has only four keypad buttons, and (3) there is no 3-digit date code (e.g. “04C”) stamped on the inside of the timer cover door. Timers with a 3-digit date code (e.g. “04C”) stamped on the inside of the timer cover door are not included in this recall.
Sold at: Retailers and electrical distributors nationwide from March 2007 through June 2009 for between $25 and $45.
Remedy: Consumers should not attempt to change the in-wall timer’s battery until they receive the repair kit. Consumers should contact Intermatic to obtain a free repair kit with installation instructions.

Black & Decker Coffeemaker Recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Units: About 584,000
Distributor: Applica Consumer Products Inc., of Miramar, Fla.
Hazard: The brew basket can shift out of alignment allowing hot water to overflow. This poses a scalding and burn hazard to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 235 reports of hot water overflowing and contacting consumers, including 10 reports of second-degree burns.
Description: The recalled product is the Black & Decker-branded Spacemaker™ coffeemaker. The product has an under-cabinet mount, programmable digital clock/timer, removable water reservoir, and either a 12-cup glass carafe or an 8-cup thermal carafe. Only model numbers ODC440, ODC440B, ODC450 and ODC460 are included in the recall. The model number can be located on the back of the coffeemaker.
Sold at: Major retailers nationwide from March 2006 through March 2009 for between $60 and $70.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled coffeemaker immediately and contact Applica for a free replacement brew basket.

Home Depot Offset Patio Umbrellas Recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with The Home Depot, announced a voluntary recall of Offset Patio Umbrellas. Sold January 2009 through February 2009 for about $250. The patio umbrellas are beige with a brown offset pole, stand 11 feet tall with a brown cross base about 18 inches long. The patio umbrella and its pole could tip over and strike consumers if the umbrella’s collar or sleeve is not removed prior to closing the umbrella, posing a risk of impact injury to consumers. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled patio umbrellas and return them to any Home Depot store for a full refund.

Select GE Profile™ Freestanding Dual Fuel Ranges Recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, announced a voluntary recall of certain GE Profile™ Freestanding Dual Fuel Ranges (gas cooktop, electric oven). Sold June 1, 2002 to December 31, 2005. A wiring connector in the rear of the range can overheat and arc to the gas supply tube, which can cause a fire. You should stop using the oven immediately. You may continue to use the cooktop burners.

Look inside your Dual Fuel range at the left inside corner of the bottom drawer to find the model and serial number.

This recall involves Homelite brand chain saws with the following model numbers: UT10514, UT10516, UT10517, UT10518, UT10520, UT10540, UT10560 and UT10918. Affected chain saws have manufacture date between November 2007 and August 2008. Recall on MTD Products Snow Throwers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the MTD Products, Inc., of Cleveland, OH, announced a voluntary recall of Two-Stage Compact Snow Throwers. Over inflating the tire with excessive pressure (well above 20 PSI) may cause the plastic wheel rims to burst posing a risk of lacerations and fractures. Blue Ember Gas Grills Recalled

Blue Ember is printed on the grill's hood. About 47,000 grills, manufactured by Keesung Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Unisplendor Corp., of China were affected. They were sold at The Home Depot Stores nationwide from November 2007 through June 2008 for about $450.

Consumers should immediately stop using the grills, and inspect the burner hoses to make sure they have been properly assembled. If the hose is to the rear of the installed heat shield, the grill has been improperly assembled and consumers should contact Fiesta for replacement hoses, assembly instructions, and if necessary, for assistance in examining the grill. WeatherBest, Veranda and ABTco Decking and Railing
The Home Depot and Louisiana-Pacific have issued a Product Advisory and inspection program for WeatherBest, Veranda and ABTco decking and railing products sold after January 2005. Louisiana-Pacific will inspect these decks and will replace decks which have deteriorated.

Some of the products can prematurely deteriorate and break, posing risk of injury to consumers. These are composite products that look similar to natural wood and are sold in different colors including Driftwood Grey, Pacific Cedar, Tuscan Walnut, Western Redwood, Chestnut and Greystone. Veranda products subject to the advisory were sold at The Home Depot stores, primarily in the Western United States.

Even if you see no visible signs of premature deterioration, if you purchased affected product after January 1, 2005, please contact Louisiana-Pacific Decking Customer Service at: 888-325-1184 or at the company's Web site.

DEWALT Cordless Brad Nailers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., of Towson, Md., announced a voluntary recall of DEWALT DC608 Cordless Brad Nailers. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The nailer can operate when the lock-off (safety) is in the locked position. Also, the nailer can operate when the trigger is not pulled and the contact trip is depressed. The unexpected ejection of a nail poses a serious injury hazard to consumers. About 14,000 nailers were affected. These were manufactured in Mexico and sold at wholesale distributors and retailers from October 2007 through May 2008 for about $280. DeWALT has received two reports of nailers operating when the lock-off (safety) was in the locked position. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves the DEWALT DC608 18 Volt Cordless 2" 18 Gauge Straight Brad Nailer with date codes 200728 through 200821. “DC608” is located on the right side of the magazine. The date code can be found on the underside of the handle, once the battery pack is removed. Units stamped with an "M" following the date code are not included in this recall. Consumers should immediately stop using the nailers and contact DEWALT for the location of the nearest service center to receive a free repair.

Lawn Mowers by American Honda Motor Corporation
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the American Honda Motor Corp,, today announced a voluntary recall of certain Honda Lawn Mowers. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The lawn mower's rear shield can break off allowing debris to be thrown toward the operator, which poses a laceration hazard to consumers. American Honda has received one report of a shield breaking off the lawn mower. No injuries have been reported. Approximately 20,500 units, manufactured by the American Honda Motor Corp., of Torrance, California. They were sold by The Home Depot stores nationwide from October 2007 to June 2008 for about $900. This recall involves HRX walk-behind lawn mowers with model numbers HRX217(K)2HXA and HRX217(K)2HMA. The model and serial number are printed on a label located on the upper rear of the mower deck. Serial numbers included in the recall are MAGA-1500001 through 1520532. The recalled lawn mowers are red with (HONDA) written on the bag.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lawn mowers and contact their local Honda Lawn and Garden dealer to schedule a free repair. Registered owners of the recalled lawn mowers have been contacted by direct mail notification.

Progress Lighting Ceiling-Mounted Indoor Light Fixtures
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Progress Lighting, today announced a voluntary recall of affected Indoor Ceiling Light Fixtures. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. A cable that supports the light fixture from the ceiling can fail, causing the fixture to fall and injure nearby consumers. Progress Lighting has received five reports of fixtures falling, including a report of an incident where two consumers suffered bruises.

About 7,500 units manufactured in China and distributed by Progress Lighting, of Greenville, S.C. were affected. The recall involves the International Series indoor (foyer) light fixtures. The light fixture has metal hardware and frosted white glass. The fixtures use either incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. Made in/Hecho en/Fabrique aux China and the model number are written on the packaging and inside the fixture canopy, which is attached to the ceiling. Model numbers involved are: P2854-09EBWB, P2855-09EBWB, P2856-09EBWB, P2859-09EBWB, P2860-09EBWB, P2861-09EBWB, P3443-09, P3444-09, P3445-09, P3789-09, P3790-09, P3791-09, P4263-09, P4264-09, P4265-09,P4265-09EXP.

The fixtures were also sold under the Thomasville Lighting brand name. They were purchased through electrical/lighting distributors and The Home Depot stores nationwide from January 2005 through March 2008 for between $290 and $1,150. Consumers who have either Progress Lighting™ or Thomasville Lighting™ recalled ceiling lights should carefully remove any of the glass, and contact Progress Lighting to schedule a free inspection and replacement.

Fuel Cells for Paslode Cordless Framing Nailers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Paslode, announced a voluntary recall of the "Tall Red" Fuel Cells designed for use in Paslode cordless framing nailers. The fuel cells used to power cordless framing nailers can leak fuel, posing a fire hazard. No incidents or injuries have been reported. This recall involves Tall Red fuel cells designed for use in Paslode cordless framing nailers. The fuel cells have part number 81600 printed in the upper right hand corner of the product packaging. Sun-Shaped Candle Holders Recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with The Home Depot, announced a voluntary recall of sun-shaped candle holders. About 13,000 sun-shaped Candle Holders were affected. Sunlight passing through the glass portion can cause nearby flammable materials to ignite, posing a fire hazard. The firm has received one report of a fire. No injuries or property damage have been reported. This recall involves sun-shaped candle holders made of glass and metal. They were sold in four colors (red, green, blue, and yellow). 15.75 Candle Holder is printed on the product hang tag. They were made in China and sold at The Home Depot stores in the southern and western regions of the U.S. from January 2008 through March 2008 for $9.99. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to The Home Depot for a full refund. DEWALT Jobsite Table Saws
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., announced a voluntary recall of the DEWALT DW744 Jobsite Table Saws. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. About 13,000 DEWALT DW744 Jobsite Table Saws were affected. The pivot bracket on the saw can separate which can misalign the blade and the fence and cause kick back. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers. DEWALT has received one reported incident of the table saw blade misaligning. No injuries have been reported. This recall involves the 10 inch DEWALT jobsite table saw model number DW744. Date codes included in the recall are 200715 through 200740. The table saws are yellow and black. The model number and date code are located on the name plate on the front of the saw. Table saws with an (X)stamped on the name plate by the date code are not included in this recall. The affected units were manufactured in Mexico and imported by DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., of Towson, Maryland. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Hamilton Beach, announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. About 482,000 Hamilton Beach® and Proctor-Silex® Toasters were affected. Toro has received 154 reports of broken impellers, including 21 reports of minor cuts and bruises resulting from projected impeller pieces. There are two decals on the main housing of the blower. One decal reads, TORO Power Sweep and the decal on the opposite side of the blower contains the model number and serial number. The trimmer/edgers can also overheat posing a burn hazard to consumers. The date code is located on the underside of the trimmer/edger's handle. Only trimmers with black spool caps are included in the recall. Those with orange spool caps are not included in the recall. Black & Decker has received 707 reports of incidents, including 58 reports of injuries. Serious injuries included cuts to two consumers' legs that required medical attention. Minor injuries included bruises, lacerations, and facial injuries such as a welt and broken skin over a consumer's eye. There were also reports of property damage, including two broken windows.
