Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store cut down energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives such as solar and wind.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Does my local Home Depot still offer Kids Workshops?
Kids Workshops are free in-store events that take place every first Saturday of the month between 9am–noon. Registration for workshops is now available online. We have a new kit pack every month to keep your little doer engaged. Included in the kits are all necessary craft materials, as well as instructions, stickers, an apron pin, a certificate of achievement, and a Discovery Education extension activity. Paint and all other required tools are provided at the event. Customers who prefer not to participate in the in-person event can pick up their free kit in-store or order online at our Kids Projects Activities page to have it shipped to their home. Call us or visit our customer service counter to check availability.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Home Depot gift cards are a popular present for the holidays, housewarming parties, and birthdays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. Purchase gift cards online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you're a recipient, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you.
