Mattress Toppers

If you haven’t been sleeping well, it could be time to make some adjustments to your bed. An older mattress or one that is too soft or too firm can prevent you from resting comfortably. But before you invest in a new bed, try a mattress topper to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Find the Right Size Mattress Toppers

There are king, queen, full and twin mattress toppers—making them ideal for the whole family. For college dorm rooms, you’ll need a twin XL mattress topper. Keep in mind that if you’re shopping for young children, you should invest in a waterproof mattress pad.

Mattress Topper Materials

• Gel mattress toppers feature cooling airflow, which means you’ll sleep comfortably through the night. They’re typically made of memory foam. This material reduces the transfer of motion and can relieve painful pressure points on your body. Both gel and memory foam mattress toppers are known for being durable and curving to the body’s contours.
• Down mattress pads are soft, cozy and warm, but they’re not ideal for sleepers with allergies. Down alternative options are typically made of polyester and are hypoallergenic. This material tends to retain body heat, so you’ll be toasty warm all night.

Once you choose your fill material, look for one that has a cotton mattress pad on top for extra comfort.

Consider How You Sleep

If you’re a side sleeper, a foam or gel version will help protect your shoulders and hips. Choose one that is soft and plush. If your mattress topper is too firm, you could feel pain in these areas. If you sleep on your back or your stomach, then a firmer option may be a better choice.
