About Fire Safety

Fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors can save your life. Make fire safety a priority for your home. In a fire emergency, every second count. We can help.

Home Safe Home
Every home needs to have a fire safety plan. It should include an emergency escape plan. Make a fire escape ladder a part of it, if necessary. Replace the batteries in your battery smoke detectors and test your smoke alarms monthly.  Smart smoke detectors give you an added sense of safety by sending alerts to your phone when it goes off. Fire safety in the home only works if you are prepared.

Install and maintain fire safety equipment. It can save your life. Hardwired smoke detectors connect to your home's wiring and usually have batteries for backup. You might need help with the installation. Battery-only detectors are easy to install and work even when the power’s out.

Smoke detectors are required by law so check your local fire safety regulations and stay in compliance. Carbon monoxide detectors are must-haves for homes with fuel-burning appliances. CO can make its way into the home from the garage, too. Live worry-free. Save when you buy in bulk, we offer multipacks at a great value.

Be Safe from Gases
Carbon monoxide detectors use sensors to detect CO in your home. You can't see, taste or smell carbon monoxide but it can make you sick, and can even be fatal without you knowing. Fresh air, air conditioning, ceiling fans, screen doors and open windows can prevent CO build up in your home. It can come from several sources in the home– a blocked chimney or a dryer-bent clog. A carbon monoxide detector will sound the alarm when it detects the presence of the poisonous gas. A furnace crack, dryer vent clog or a blocked chimney can all produce carbon monoxide. CO detectors should be installed on each level of the house, including the basement, and near attached garages. Take a portable carbon monoxide detector with you on your travels to be safe on the road. Don’t forget to protect yourself against natural gas. Use a natural gas detector to locate leaks and to ensure proper gas line installation.

Fire Extinguishers Save Lives
Keep a fire extinguisher on each level of your home. Remember, they are not meant to put out the fire in your home; the idea is to get you out quickly and without harm. A 5lb fire extinguisher is lightweight enough for anyone to manage. Every home fire extinguisher is labeled A, B, or C, which tells you the types of fires the extinguisher is effective against. A is ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, and cloth; B is flammable liquids, such as gasoline or cooking oil; and C is for live electricity.        Less
