Polyester Sheets

Polyester sheets are durable, comfortable, affordable and resistant to wrinkling and stains. They offer the best of both worlds, providing a comfortable sleeping surface while being cost- and maintenance-friendly. A typical sheet set comes with a fitted sheet, flat sheet and two standard pillowcases. Here’s how to choose a polyester sheet set that works best for your bed.
Types of Polyester Bed Sheets

Polyester sheet sets come in different weaves and fabric blends, which can affect their look and feel.

• Cotton/polyester blend sheets are easy to care for, affordable and will outlast their 100 percent polyester counterparts. They are also more breathable than all-polyester sheets—so a cotton blend is best for people with sensitive skin. Look for a 50/50 blend to find a fabric that is both durable and comfortable.
• Polyester microfiber sheets are known for their warmth and comfort. They’re super soft because they’re made with ultra-fine threads of polyester. They also resist pilling, so they last through many washings.
• Plain weave sheets have a smooth, durable surface. Use them on kids’ beds to resist wear and tear. Sateen weaves have a silky surface that is shiny, which is why they feel like polyester silk sheets. They’re great for master bedrooms or guest rooms.

Like cotton sheets, polyester bedding comes in a variety of solid colors and patterns, so you can outfit every bed in your home. Choose floral print sheets for a young girl’s room or a more neutral pinstripe pattern for a teen’s bed.

Finding the Right Fit

Mattresses and sheet sizes can vary slightly for different manufacturers, so it’s a good idea to measure your mattress. To play it safe, select a set that is a couple of inches larger than your mattress, especially in depth (top to bottom).

Sheets come in a variety of depths: standard, deep and extra deep. As a general rule, standard depth is 7 to 14 inches, deep is 15 inches and extra deep is 16 to 22 inches. Be sure to take into account any mattress toppers when you choose the depth of your new sheets.
