Installing a New Fill Valve in Your Toilet

DISCONNECT SUPPLY LINE

  • Turn off the water at the shutoff valve and drain the tank by flushing the toilet.
  • Place a small basin below the toilet tank to catch any excess water left in the tank, and soak up any remaining water in the tank with a sponge.
  • Disconnect the old supply line.

REMOVE OLD FILL VALVE

Remove the fill valve nut, and then remove the fill valve.

ADJUST NEW FILL VALVE

Adjust the height of the valve so the marking on top of the valve is at least 1 inch above the overflow tube.

INSERT NEW FILL VALVE AND CONNECT SUPPLY LINE

  • Place the valve shank onto the fill valve, then insert the fill valve into the tank opening.
  • Push down on the valve shank, and tighten the locknut one-half turn beyond hand tight.
  • Connect the supply line.

ATTACH REFILL TUBE

Inside the tank, attach the refill tube (trim if necessary to avoid any kinks) and angle adaptor to the overflow.

ADJUST WATER LEVEL

  • Turn the water back on.
  • Allow the tank to fill.
  • Adjust the water level by squeezing the adjustment clip and moving the float up or down. On some models the float is adjusted using a threaded screw sitting next to the float.
