How long can I rent large equipment, trailers, and tools?
You can rent a piece of large equipment, a trailer, or a tool for four hours or more. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small home improvement projects may only require a rental for a few hours, and bigger jobs aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent these items by the day, week, or month, too. If you need your rental equipment longer than your initial rental period, call the rental center for an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You can return the tools early if you finish your project sooner than predicted, but on time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off any residual dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need them longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Do saw rentals come with saw blades?
Yes, power saw rentals generally come with blades, but we do recommend that you buy your own. You'll likely not get a sharp blade when you rent, as most people won't leave one on there when they return it. However, you might get lucky and have a sharpened blade on the saw. Since there's no guarantee, it's better to purchase a suitable blade, just in case you need it.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you return it. Note the original fuel level when you receive the truck, and be sure to fill it with enough gas to match that same level. If you don't, you have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent a truck or large equipment with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. All large equipment and select tools require ID verification via CLEAR.
How do I receive my large equipment rental?
Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's at your home or out in the field. We'll need at least 24 hours' notice so we can adequately prepare your rental delivery for you, and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't an option, speak to an associate for the best way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on my large equipment rentals?
Think of your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and that you obey traffic laws. Read the operator's manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
