How do I get my mulch?
The Home Depot offers flexible mulch delivery options nationwide based on your order size. We can deliver small orders with a car for a $3 fee. As orders grow to medium-sized, we switch to a van for a $35 fee. For the largest jobs, we have a fleet of box trucks and flatbeds ready to deliver to your job site for a $79 fee. You can also pick up your mulch at the store for free, and orders that reach a purchase threshold may qualify for free delivery. Not sure how much you'll need? Check out our mulch calculator to get started. Get more details below on mulch delivery via truck, car, or van.
Do you offer self-pickup for mulch orders?
Yes, you can pick up your own mulch. Even better, we're happy to help if you need it. After you buy mulch online with store pickup or purchase it in-store, go to the mulch loading zone or drive-thru if your store has one. An Orange Apron can load a small or medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bagged or loose mulch, delivery is a wise choice.
Does The Home Depot deliver mulch?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a regular van or car for just a $3 delivery fee. Bulk mulch, also called yard or loose mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may get free delivery. That threshold varies from one store to the next. However, you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
How much mulch qualifies for large truck or flatbed delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of yard mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll be looking at flatbed or box truck delivery. Normally, these are serious DIYers, landscapers, or Pro customers working on a major landscaping project. There's a minimum pallet order to maximize resources and usually a delivery fee. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
How do I treat weeds?
Weeds might start peeking through in the garden beds, even if you put down mulch or landscape liner fabric to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before they go to seed. Pull out weeds from the root in vegetable or edible flower gardens, and dig up the roots if the weeds snap off at ground level. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for pollinators and pets — and wear heavy rubber gloves and a respirator to ensure that it doesn't touch your skin or get in your lungs.
How do I fix burned grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a lengthy drink. You'll need to rehydrate those roots. It should perk up within the next week. The game plan for how to treat grass from dog urine isn't as straightforward. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new grass or patch and repair grass seed.
Is there an ideal time to water my garden?
If you can water at least once a day, during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering when the sun is at its peak means a lot of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: lawns, trees, and gardens. Whenever you water, give all the plants a thorough drink, and don't skip it just because it's not the best time. The plants still need hydration, no matter what time it is. Depending on your grass type, lawn health, and climate, you may also want to look into applying a lawn fertilizer.
Does my garden need fertilizer?
Once you've got your plants in the ground, you'll need to make sure they stay hydrated and well-fed. Choose a synthetic or an organic fertilizer that fits your needs and gives your garden a boost. You can even find one that's formulated for your plants, whether you need a flower fertilizer, vegetable fertilizer, citrus tree fertilizer, or general garden fertilizer blend. Only apply as often as recommended on the packaging. Always water immediately after, as directed, so the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from relentless summer heat, shelter beneath a patio umbrella or a covered gazebo. If you have sturdy structures like a house, make your own shade by attaching awnings and shade sails. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a patio mister or misting fan can help cool the air and turn a stifling afternoon into a refreshingly relaxing day. Go back to lounging in the sun when that water-cooled air is ready.
Can I do a quick patio makeover before entertaining?
Spending time with friends in gorgeous summertime weather makes the season even more special. But you don't need to do a full backyard makeover or create your own patio furniture collection from scratch to do it. Even a tiny backyard refresh can make a huge difference. A new outdoor rug, outdoor lounge furniture, or even a string of outdoor lights can breathe new life into a patio space.

Settle Into Summer
As we continue deeper into summer, your garden and landscaping will weather more sun and heat than earlier in the year. That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool. Just like we can get sunburned, trees can lose their leaves prematurely, grass can get scorched, and plants can dry out. We can help. At The Home Depot Jersey City, NJ Garden Center, we've got what you need to make the most of summer.
Keep Your Lawn Tidy
As the weeks tick by, the grass seed or sod you planted will grow taller than what's ideal. Eventually, it'll need some maintenance to look fresh and manicured. Keep the lawn in check with a riding lawn mower and a string trimmer to knock down any tall grass around fences, buildings, or sidewalks.
Bushes, shrubs, and trees climb toward the sun and lose their shape over time. In the summer, they'll be growing fast, filled with buds before you know it. Trim wild branches to the shape you want with garden shears and hedge trimmers. It's best to leave major tree maintenance and tree topping to the pros, but you may want to use a pole saw for minor trims and a chainsaw for small bushes and trees.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Much of your garden's upkeep comes down to balancing sun and water. You'll need both to keep plants growing and flowering. A general rule when watering flowers and plants is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler or sprinkler system, or drip irrigation system can get the job done. Contrary to popular belief, the blooms themselves don't need to be watered or even misted. Many flowers droop when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry off. Succulents are the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific succulent varieties to optimize their care.
In addition to watering, keep an eye on your plants' nutrient intake. Use fertilizer as recommended. We've even got fertilizers to match the plants you're growing so they'll enjoy a balanced diet with the right nutrients.
Vertical Edible Gardening
Grow produce vertically for a smart use of space. Many vegetable plants are vines and well-suited to climb a fence or trellis, so plant them next to one. The key to success is supporting the stem, fruit, and branches. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap the stem or branches. Fasten the plant to a fence, trellis, or pole with string, plant ties and wires, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to attach each plant loosely. Then, the stem has room to grow wider, and the branches and leaves can sway in the breeze.
Strawberries, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes need support as they bear fruit. Melons and squash require hammocks made of string, a sling, old nylons, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. All of these plants take up less space on the ground this way, which allows you to fit even more plants or have walking room in between.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near an arched arbor or trellis so they'll climb it and give you both beauty and shade. Go with vine plants that are native to your area to attract pollinators. Grape vines are a classic choice, but they take time to mature, so you'll enjoy dappled shade but no grapes for a few years. Be sure to match your vine plants to the amount of sunlight you receive, as not all of them thrive in full sun. As a bonus, many vines put out sweet-smelling flowers, so you can enjoy a delightful fragrance as you cool off in the shade.
