How can I get my mulch delivered?
The Home Depot offers flexible mulch delivery options nationwide based on the size of your order. For small orders, we can deliver via car for a $3 fee. As orders get bigger, we switch to a van for a $35 fee. For the largest projects, we have a fleet of flatbeds and box trucks ready to deliver to your job site for a $79 fee. Do you offer self-pickup for mulch orders?
Yes, you can pick up your mulch in your own vehicle. We're also happy to help if you need it. After you purchase mulch online with store pickup or buy it in-store, go to the mulch loading zone or drive-thru if your store has one. One of our associates can load your small-to-medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bagged mulch or bulk mulch, you'll likely want delivery.
How can I get small batches of mulch delivered?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a regular car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called bulk or yard mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may get free delivery. That threshold varies from one store to the next. However, you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
How much mulch qualifies for large truck or flatbed delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of yard mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll qualify for box truck or flatbed delivery. Most of the time, these are Pro customers, serious DIYers, or landscapers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's a minimum pallet order to maximize resources and usually a delivery fee. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What should I do about weeds in my garden?
Weeds might start peeking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape liner or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before the weeds' flowers dry out and drop their seeds. Pull out weeds from the root in vegetable or edible flower gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off without them. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear durable rubber gloves and a respirator to ensure that it doesn't get in your lungs or touch your skin.
How do I fix scorched grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good long drink. You'll need to rehydrate those roots. It should perk up within the next week. The game plan for how to treat grass from dog urine isn't as simple. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new grass or patch and repair grass seed.
When should I water the lawn?
If you can water at least once a day, during the evening or in the early morning, that's ideal. When it's the height of summer, twice is better. Watering when the sun is at its peak means a lot of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: trees, lawns, and gardens. How do I fertilize my plants?
Once you've got your plants in the ground, you'll need to make sure they stay hydrated and well-fed. Choose an organic or synthetic fertilizer that fits your needs and gives your garden a boost. You can even find one that's formulated for your plants, whether you need a vegetable fertilizer, fruit tree fertilizer, succulent plant food, or a general garden fertilizer. Follow the application instructions and don't add extra. Remember to always water immediately after, as directed, so the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from the heat, shelter under a patio umbrella or a covered gazebo. If you have sturdy structures like a shed or house, make your own shade by attaching awnings and shade sails. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a patio mister or misting fan can help cool the air and turn a stifling afternoon into a relaxing day. Go back to lounging in the sun when that water-cooled air is ready.

That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with shade, irrigation, and proper tending. Just like we can get sunburned, trees can lose their leaves prematurely, grass can get scorched, and plants can dry out. Let us help. Lawn Repair and Patching
Burnt, or scorched, grass has an oddly shaped discoloration that looks yellow. It happens when plastic or metal sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight, or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll discover it once you move something sitting in the yard, like a trash can or hose. Mirrors or car windows can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.
Water burnt grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged by pet urine or otherwise unsalvageable, you'll need to use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.
Whether you’re doing upkeep on your current lawn or patching the bare spots, keep in mind which type of grass it is and tailor your lawn care to it. Match the grass type to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if trees or buildings shade your lawn so it gets dappled sun or partial shade, make sure you plant sun or shade grass or part sun grass that's not meant for full sun.
Care for Your Trees and Shrubs
When you're watering your flower garden, don't forget about the trees and shrubs. They may need less watering than summer flowers or vegetable plants, but they can still get parched and dry in the summer heat. It's easy to learn how to water trees and bushes — just make sure you aim the water at the roots. It'll help prolong the greenery and keep it from turning brown or yellow. Also, check for damaged areas on your trees and shrubs. Pests can destroy your greenery if you don't catch them in time.
Look for holes in leaves, spots on leaves or bark, or a network of raised lines on the bark. When your leaves look like lace, something is eating them. Spots may indicate a number of issues ranging from bugs to fungus. Those scar-like lines on tree bark could mean your tree is infected with borers, which are insects that lay eggs inside the bark and then burrow out after they hatch. Research and care for any of these issues as soon as possible, as a severe case may kill all or part of your tree or shrub.
Grow Your Own Herbs
For fresh flavors to accent your homegrown produce, add herbs. They're generally low-maintenance and grow easily in pots, both indoors and outdoors. If you grow herbs outdoors, stick to heat-loving herbs that'll endure the summer temperatures, and consider a hanging herb garden.
Planting herbs in the ground can be tricky, as many of them — especially mint — are invasive and will take over your lawn. To avoid a yard full of mint or other herbs, keep them in decorative pots on a sunny porch, window sill, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work well in a hydroponic garden, which doesn't use soil. Instead, they grow in a mixture of sand, rock chips, or perlite.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near an arched arbor or trellis so they'll climb it and give you both beauty and shade. Go with vine plants that are native to your area to attract pollinators. Grape vines are a classic choice, but they take time to mature, so you'll enjoy dappled shade but no grapes for a few years. Be sure to match your vine plants to the amount of sunlight you receive, as some like full sun and others don't.
