What ways are there to get mulch delivered?
This year, enjoy free mulch delivery from our stores when you hit a purchase threshold. Our associates partner with a third-party, delivering your mulch in a vehicle that matches your project needs. Small orders will arrive in a car for a $3 fee, medium orders utilize our vans at a $35 fee, and large orders come to you in a box truck or flatbed at a $79 fee.
Can I get my mulch order loaded into my truck?
Yes, you're welcome to pick up your mulch yourself. We're also happy to help if you need it. After you purchase mulch online with store pickup or buy it in-store, go to the mulch loading zone or drive-thru if your store has one. An Orange Apron can load your small or medium mulch order into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bagged mulch or bulk mulch, delivery is a wise choice.
Does The Home Depot deliver mulch?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a standard car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called bulk or yard mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may qualify for free delivery. That threshold varies from one store to the next, but you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
How much mulch qualifies for flatbed or large truck delivery?
When you're ordering pallets of bagged mulch or huge quantities of bulk mulch, you'll be looking at flatbed or box truck delivery. Often, these are landscapers, Pro customers, or serious DIYers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's usually a delivery fee and minimum pallet order. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What do I do about all these weeds?
Weeds might start peeking through in the garden beds, even if you put down mulch or a landscape liner fabric to keep them at bay. Pull out weeds from the root in edible flower or vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weeds snap off at ground level. Be sure to get them before they go to seed. If you'd like to treat weeds with weed killer, check that it's safe for pollinators and pets — and wear a respirator and heavy rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't irritate your lungs or your skin.
How do I fix sunburned grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good long drink. Continue to water it regularly. It should perk up over the course of a week. The method for how to treat grass from dog urine isn't as simple. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new sod, grass seed, or patch and repair grass seed.
When should I water the grass?
If you can water at least once a day, during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering during the heat of the day means a lot of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: lawns, gardens, and trees. Whenever you water, give all the plants a good drink, and don't skip it just because it's not the ideal time. The plants still need hydration, no matter what time it is. Depending on your grass type, climate, and lawn health, you may also want to look into adding a lawn fertilizer.
Should I fertilize my flower garden?
Once you've gotten your plants into the soil, make sure they stay well-fed and hydrated. Choose an organic or synthetic fertilizer that suits your needs and gives your garden a boost. You can even find one specially formulated for your plants, whether you need a vegetable fertilizer, fruit tree fertilizer, succulent plant food, or a general garden fertilizer. Only apply as often as recommended on the packaging. Remember to always water immediately after, as directed. That way, the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from relentless summer heat, shelter under a covered gazebo or a patio umbrella. If you have sturdy structures like a house or a shed, make your own shade by attaching shade sails and awnings. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a misting fan or patio mister can help cool the air and turn a stifling afternoon into a refreshingly relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that water-chilled air is ready.

That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending, shade, and irrigation. You might also need ways to beat the heat. We can help. Keep Your Lawn Tidy
As the weeks tick by, the sod or grass seed you planted will grow taller than what's ideal. Give it some TLC so it looks fresh again. Keep the lawn in check with a push lawn mower and a string trimmer to knock down any tall grass around buildings, sidewalks, or fences.
Bushes, shrubs, and trees climb toward the sun and lose their shape over time. In the summer, they'll be growing fast, filled with blooms before you know it. Prune them to show off their beauty with garden shears and hedge trimmers. It's best to leave tree topping and major tree maintenance to the pros, but you may want to use a pole saw for minor trims and a chainsaw for small bushes and trees.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Much of your garden's upkeep comes down to balancing sun and water. You'll need both to keep plants growing and flowering. A general rule when watering plants and flowers is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler or sprinkler system, or drip irrigation system will work well. You don't need to water or even mist the blooms themselves. Many flowers droop and wilt when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry off. Succulents are, of course, the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific succulent varieties to optimize their care.

Vertical Edible Gardening
Grow produce vertically for a smart use of space. Many vegetable plants are vines and well-suited to climb a fence or trellis, so plant them next to one. The key to success is supporting the stem, fruit, and branches. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap the stem or branches. Fasten the plant to a fence, trellis, or pole with plant ties and wires, string, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to attach each plant loosely. Then, the stem has room to grow wider, and the branches and leaves can sway in the breeze.
Strawberries, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes need support as they bear fruit. Melons and squash require hammocks made of string, a sling, old nylons, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. All of these plants take up less space on the ground this way, which allows you to fit even more plants or have walking room in between.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near an arched arbor or trellis so they'll climb it and give you both beauty and shade. Go with vine plants that are native to your area to attract pollinators. Grape vines are a classic choice, but they take time to mature, so you'll enjoy dappled shade but no grapes for a few years. Be sure to match your vine plants to the amount of sunlight you receive, as some like full sun and others don't. As a bonus, many vines put out sweet-smelling flowers with a delightful fragrance you can enjoy as you cool off in the shade.
