We've got bargains on patio furniture, up to $100 off select grill gifts, and more. And if you can't choose what Dad wants the most, a gift card will never go to waste. Shop online, on our mobile app, or in the aisles of your local store to get these fantastic deals.

How do I know what planting zone I am in?

Check the USDA zone map, as planting zones have changed over time. Zones with higher numbers can plant earlier in the year. Pick plants that are intended for your area and up your chances of successful gardening.

How can I get my mulch delivered?

This year, enjoy free mulch delivery from our stores when you meet a purchase threshold. Our associates partner with a third-party, delivering your mulch in a vehicle that matches your project needs. Small orders will arrive in a car for a $3 fee, medium orders utilize our vans at a $35 fee, and large orders come to you via box truck or flatbed at a $79 fee.

Do you offer self-pickup for mulch orders?

Yes, you're welcome to pick up your mulch yourself. Even better, we're ready to help if you need it. After you purchase mulch in-store or online with store pickup, go to the drive-thru or mulch loading zone if your store has one. An Orange Apron will load a small or medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bulk yard or bagged mulch, you'll likely want delivery.

Does my mulch get delivered in a car?

If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called yard or bulk mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may qualify for free delivery. That threshold varies from one store to the next. However, you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.

How much mulch qualifies for large truck or flatbed delivery?

When you're ordering pallets of bagged mulch or huge quantities of loose mulch, you'll be looking at flatbed or box truck delivery. Normally, these are landscapers, Pro customers, or serious DIYers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's usually a delivery fee and minimum pallet order. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.

What should I do about weeds in my garden?

Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape fabric or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before they go to seed. Pull weeds from the root in edible flower or vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off at ground level. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear durable rubber gloves and a respirator to ensure that it doesn't touch your skin or get in your lungs.

How do I fix yellow grass?

You'll need to rehydrate those roots. The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good long drink, then continue to water it regularly. It should perk up by the following week. On the other hand, the game plan for treating grass damaged by dog urine isn't as straightforward. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replanted in fresh soil with new grass seed, sod, or patch and repair grass seed.

What's the best time to water?

If you can water at least once a day, during the evening or in the early morning, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering when the sun is at its peak means a great deal of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: trees, flowers, grass, and gardens. Whenever you water, give all the plants a good drink, and don't skip it if it's not the perfect time. The plants still need hydration, regardless of the time on the clock. Depending on your climate, grass type, and lawn health, you may also want to look into applying a lawn fertilizer.

Should I fertilize my plants?

Once you've gotten your plants settled into the ground, make sure they stay hydrated and well-fed. Choose a synthetic or an organic fertilizer that suits your needs and gives your garden a boost. You can even find one that's formulated for your plants, whether you need a flower fertilizer, vegetable fertilizer, citrus tree fertilizer, or general garden fertilizer blend. Avoid applying more often than recommended. Always water immediately after, as directed, so the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.

How can I keep cool this summer?

When you need a break from working in the yard, shelter beneath a covered gazebo or a patio umbrella. If you have sturdy structures like a house or a shed, make your own shade by attaching shade sails and awnings. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a misting fan or patio mister can help cool the air and turn a stifling afternoon into a relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that chilled air is ready.

How do I entertain on the patio?

Backyard entertaining is whatever you'd like — it doesn't have to be a barbeque party. If you plan on firing up the grill, make sure you know how to clean a grill when you're done. Many people relax outdoors or cook a meal together in an outdoor kitchen. However you bond, extend the fun into the evening with proper outdoor lighting and a bug-free yard without pesky mosquitoes.

Set Up For Summertime
As we stretch into the dog days of summer, your landscaping and garden will weather more heat and sun than earlier in the season. That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with irrigation, shade, and proper tending. Just like we can get sunburned, plants can dry out, grass can get scorched, and trees can lose their leaves early. We've got advice to help you, your garden, and your lawn make it through the hotter months with flying colors.

Lawn Repair and Patching
Burnt, or scorched, grass has a distinctively shaped discoloration that isn't green. It happens when a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn, or plastic or metal sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight. You'll discover it once you move something sitting in the yard, like a trash can. Car windows or mirrors can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.

Water burnt grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it needs neutralizing after urine damage, you must use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.

Whether you’re doing upkeep on your current lawn or patching the bare spots, keep in mind which type of grass it is and tailor your lawn care accordingly. Match the grass type to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if trees or buildings shade your lawn so it gets dappled sun or partial shade, make sure you plant sun or shade grass or part sun grass that's not meant for full sun.

Watch Your Garden Thrive
Make sure to water your garden. That's the way to keep it going between rainstorms and enjoy the summer flowering. A general rule when watering plants and flowers is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler or sprinkler system, or drip irrigation system will do the job. Contrary to popular belief, the blooms themselves don't need to be watered or even misted. Many flowers wilt and droop when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry off. Succulents are the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific succulent varieties to optimize their care.

In addition to watering, keep an eye on the nutrients your plants are getting. Use fertilizer as recommended. We've even got fertilizers to match the types of plants you're growing so they'll get the right nutrients.

Grow Your Own Herbs
For fresh flavors to accent your homegrown produce, add herbs. They're generally low-maintenance. It's easy to learn how to grow herbs indoors, but you can raise herbs outdoors, too. If you grow herbs outdoors, stick to heat-loving herbs that'll endure the summer temperatures, and consider a hanging herb garden.

Planting herbs in the ground can be tricky, as many of them — especially mint — are invasive and will take over your lawn. To avoid a yard full of volunteer herb sprouts, keep them in decorative pots on a sunny porch, window sill, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work well in a hydroponic garden, which doesn't use soil. Instead, they grow in a mixture of sand, rock chips, or perlite.

Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near an arched arbor or trellis so they'll climb it and give you both shade and beauty. Choose vine plants that are native to your area to attract pollinators. Grape vines are a classic choice, but they take time to mature, so you'll enjoy dappled shade but no grapes for a few years. Be sure to match your vine plants to the amount of sunlight you receive, as not all of them thrive in full sun. As a bonus, many vines put out sweet-smelling flowers, so you can enjoy a delightful fragrance as you cool off in the shade.
