A:  NPT stands for National Pipe Tapered threads, also known as ANSI/ASME B1. 20.1 pipe threads. It is a U.S. standard for measuring tapered threads on threaded pipes and fittings.

            by|Oct 30, 2020

A:  Sometimes NPT threads are referred to as MPT ('Male Pipe Thread'), MNPT, or NPT(M) for male (external) threads; and FPT ('Female Pipe Thread'), FNPT, or NPT(F) for female (internal) threads.

I needed this to connect a garden hose to a drip system head used to keep a birdbath filled. My older adaptor leaked; also this new one. Tried a new washer, still dripped. An inspection of the adapter showed close tolerances, and clean threads. Maybe it wasn't the adapters.... I hooked a $1.50 inline plastic hose shut off valve between the hose end and the adapter. BINGO! The HOSE end metal connector is poorly formed, and did not provide a good seal. Functions perfectly now.

I jumped through quite a few hoops to hook up a garden hose to my laundry tub faucet, all unsuccessful. Then found this marvelous device at Home Depot. It fit perfectly and with a little plumbler's tape (teflon tape) does not leak at all. I highly recommend this device. I may order a couple to have on hand for future projects! Home Depot invariably comes to my DIY project rescues <3
