In the description it says actual thickness is 0.476 in. but in the dimensions section is says actual product thickness: 0.21 in.. This seems like an error. Which is correct?
Asked by: Phil
The thickness dimension is .476". The .21 is probably the thickness of the plies.

I am building a skateboard ramp and need plywood that is both smooth and flexible. How bendable is birch compared to plywood such as pine, and how smooth does it tend to be compared to typical pine plywood?
Asked by: Hall
birch is a softer wood then the pine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality I searched through the pile of 25 sheets and was able to come up with 3 sheets that were worth buying. One side is maybe Grade C while the other is Grade E. I'd like to say this is a bad batch, but this isn't the first time I've purchased these from Home Depot. There are many spots that are veneer over holes. The layers are not uniform is size or consistency, and they separate with ease. I cut a 4" wide strip and the layers were completely separated, causing the piece to fall apart. Home Depot should consult a different company for their hardwood plywood.

The plywood itself it good by today's standards, my main concern is that it has more and larger voids in the inner plys than I would like to see. It is also expensive for the small piece they are selling - equivalent to over $80 per sheet. The outside finish is quite acceptable and takes oil based paint well, although the grain does rise somewhat. I do have a complaint with the cutting that I had done at the store. Either the panel saw is misaligned by a small amount or the guy that cut is didn't clean the bottom that the panel rests on very well because the cuts were off by about 2 degrees from square. I guess that I got what I paid for with the cutting because it was free.

My only comment is that the plywood sheet has a good side and a bad side. Why would you put the bar code sticker on the good side, this makes no sense. It took a lot of effort to remove.

I didn't realize the nominal width was 23.75 because I needed a full 2 feet but that was probably my error. Although I don't recall the nominal dimensions being clearly shown. I understand nominal dimensions in framing lumber, i.e. a 2 x 4 is essentially 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 but didn't think about that with this panel. Very nice quality however.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Birch Tabletop Project Panel The 1/2 in. 2x4 birch project panel painted with glidden traditional brown is the perfect tabletop for a vanity cabinet (claxby chocolate 36 in.) in my living room. The birch panel was cut to size by a Home Depot associate at no charge so after the paint dried it was ready to be put on the cabinet. A thin bead of wood glue is holding it together really well. The panel is very strong and was easy to finish with paint.

Worked perfect for my project, (replacing the wood & adding foam on my hubbys captains seat on our boat). I had to make sure I got the one with 7 ply because there were 5 ply boards in the same bin. 7 ply is so much sturdier & its what was originally on the seat. Glad I didn't have to purchase a whole 4'x8' sheet!

Not good and not necessary.
