5/8" to 3/4" Put the screw in bracket and hold up to edge of plank. You'll see which one will not allow tip to go through board. If you want nice wood, use the more expensive "Clear Pine". More expensive but better quality. Available at HD.

Yes but you need to make a box with sides on all four sides and a center support in the middle to keep it from caving in when you walk on it. Or make a box as above and use a piece of exterior plywood like a half sheet handy panel. That would be a little stronger.

Has anyone tried using these boards to carve with a CNC?

The particular piece I purchased was in pristine condition however many of the other pieces there were warped, twisted, cupped, checked, and cracked in some areas. I had 20 pieces to choose from and I would've used 3.

I needed some boards quickly so I ordered online from Home Depot trusting they would have some good ones ready when I got there. I should have taken the time to read the customer reviews. When I got them home I was disappointed to find that every board was warped. One was chipped on the end bad and not suitable for shelving. I sure got laughed at for trusting the big guy. My bad for being in a hurry and next time it'll be worth the drive to the local lumber yard.

Purchased a 6 foot board to use on a DIY bookshelf that I found on Pinterest and wanted to make after we decided to upcycle wood crates that we had used for party decor. We cut the wood into two for the length of the three crates, screwed the crates together, then screwed the board to the top and bottom of the crates. We added hairpin metal legs and lightly sanded the boards. I think it looked great and can be used as a bookshelf or television stand.
