1 in. x 4 in. x 8 ft. Premium Kiln-Dried Square Edge Whitewood Common Board is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from over priced, decent quality. As a contractor I look for the best quality/ price point. I do not mark up my materials. These 1x4x8's are twice the price, and lower quality than our local lumber yard. Lots if good thing the larger stores offer, but not in this category...

I thought I picked out straight pieces in the store, but unfortunately when I laid them down to cut, they were warped. For the price being charged, it's not worth the buy. Their biggest competitor has the same problem. But I guess in order to get high quality or just a plain flat straight board these days, you would have to cut the tree down yourself and slice it up. I'm not an expert when it comes to lumber, but I think that when you go to the store to buy a product, the product should live up to basic specifications, so it can be useful for anyone, no matter their expertise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lumbar Department I’m working on a big project in my house and I went to the Norwalk, CT location on Connecticut ave to have 30 pieces of wood cut. The first time I went my wood was cut terribly and I was very upset. The associate who helped me did not measure the wood and when I got home I noticed the hack job he did. I went back the next day and met Dwight who was absolutely AMAZING! Not only did he cut everything perfectly, he also answered any question I had and he is very professional. If you have any wood that needs to be cut make sure you ONLY see Dwight!!

Unfortunately, there we only about 25 pieces left in the bin, all stacked vertically. I needed 10. There were 5 that were straight, and another 5 that were bowed, but workable. The remaining 15 pieces were very poor quality due to being stored vertically (excessively bowed and/or twisted). I wish HD would store this lumber horizontally.

These are obviously not the top grade 1 X 4 pine boards that one would use for good furniture but they are straight, very few knots, some bark edges, and worth the price. I used them to build storage shelving that will not be seen and they are perfect. Screws easily held them in place and no splitting. I just left them as rough lumber.

We ordered quite a few of these 1x4s and about 15 of them were basically unusable as they were twisted and/or warped. I understand that it makes it much easier when you can see the product in person to pick out the pieces, but when you pay for "premium", I'd expect for most of them to be usable.

One was bad enough that I had to go to the rack and search for another. A second had warp too, but I decided to make it work, since some warp is probably normal.
