Product Overview

MDF has many advantages over plank wood, particleboard or high density fiberboard. Its very smooth because the wood fibers used in its manufacture are uniform and fine. This makes it have low tear out, which means that when sawed, the end has a smooth cut instead of a jagged edge. This also means that a coat of primer and a couple of coats of paint take well, leaving an attractive, finished surface unlike other composite wood products.
  • Can be nailed, glued, screwed or stapled, making it as versatile as plank wood
  • Medium density fiberboard or MDF, is a composite wood product similar to particleboard, its made out of wood waster fibers glued together with resin heat and pressure, MDF is appropriate for many applications, from cabinetry to moulding to shelving
  • Builders value MDF because it can be nailed, glued, screwed, stapled or attached with dowels, the wood fibers used in its manufacture are uniform and fine, which makes it very smooth, it does not warp or split and does not expand and contract like natural wood
  • Oil-base or latex paints can be used when finishing MDF boards
  • Excellent for interior use trimming windows, doors and cased openings

Answer

My company provides SKU 242738, but not 1000018457...though they appear to be similar products based on my research. On-line you will find both offerings, but the market and store offering will be one or the other...typically not both. The store location within the U.S. will determine supplier....and the retail price. I hope you are in a market with SKU 242738 as it is a lower retail!

I am looking for a board that is nominal 1"... is this actually 1" or is it 3/4" actual thickness?

Ordered five for drive-thru pick up. I inspected the boards prior to the employee loading them. I Noticed three were stained. They swapped them out with those that had fewer stains. I had no choice, I had to use them that day due to tools I was borrowing. Two of them were bowed when I got them home. I finished the project. some of the stained parts I was able to saw off. My experience is usually good, but this time it was frustrating.

Bob,

The MDF Boards should not warp. As an engineered product, the fiber should not warp and if it does bend out of shape, then it can be laid flat on the floor and will quickly "flatten out".
