How do you get the door back on? Pops off ok but can’t get it back on.

It is a tight fit but the panel snaps back into the ring.

Will this fit a slightly smaller opening like 13 x 13.25

No. The flange is approx 14" x 14". Without an opening that large, it wont sit flush to the wall/ceiling.

How well do these tolerate heat. I want to put over a hot water copper pipe !

You can insulate that area of the pipe if your really concerned. Domestic hot water should be fine, if it's heating hot water or steam piping, and the panel is ABOVE the pipe, it may not like that.

I think you're asking if i person could fit through the 14" hole framed by the access panel. They'd have to be a VERY small person! I seriously doubt it. I wouldn't consider it a security risk. If you're asking whether you can reach into the opening and access plumbing, then absolutely - that's what it's designed for.

Exactly how do you open this panel?

As the manufacturer (Oatey) said in their response, pry it open with a thin, wide flat blade screwdriver in one of the 8 small slots around the perimeter of the door. The door is a VERY tight fit in the frame. I chose to file down the "catches" until it was easier to snap in place. Just don't file too much!

Great way to neatly cover plumbing, etc., but a tight fit. After opening a wall to replace a shower valve I considered repairing the plasterboard, but decided that having access to the plumbing would be a good thing. I chose this “Everbilt 14 in. x 14 in. Wall Access Panel”. (HD also stocks this under the “Oatey” brand) Installation is simple: Cut a 14” square hole in the drywall, run a bead of construction adhesive on the inside of the frame, and press it in place. I used blue painters tape to hold it in place while the adhesive dried. Then snap in the “door” panel. There’s no hinge or latch, just 8 catches on the inside of the door. Use a wide flat blade screwdriver or similar to pop it out. It’s a TIGHT fit. I ended up filing down the catches to make it easier. It holds paint well. I used the same interior latex as the walls. I’d recommend painting the two pieces separately or it will be even harder to get them apart later. The frame is 17” square, so precision isn’t required when cutting the 14” hole. But you do need the full 1/2" depth of the drywall for it to sit flat. I had to chisel away a small bit of 2x4 that got in the way. This won’t be a problem if your hole is entirely between studs.

Picked one of these up to cut in to gain access to a leaking pipe. The thing just didn't want to sit flat against the drywall. Took about 8 clamps to keep it in place as the construction adhesive set. Looks fine now. Good for out of the way spaces, wouldn't want to look at everyday.
