Product Overview

Moisture Barrier is a convenient and effective vapor blocker designed specifically for small to medium-sized flooring jobs. At just 100 sq. ft. per roll, Moisture Barrier eliminates the hassle of dealing with a giant sheet of folded plastic. It rolls out and lies flat, with self-sealing seams making it simple to connect and form a continuous 6 mm vapor barrier between wood or laminate planks and a subfloor.
  • Made with 100% polyethylene for long-lasting moisture protection
  • Designed for use over most types of subfloors
  • Helps protect wood or laminate floor from harmful subsurface moisture
  • Covers 100 sq. ft.; roll measures 40 ft. x 30 in.
  • Roll the film out and tape all seams for easy installation

Answer

If the concrete subfloor is on the 2nd story, then no as moisture can not be emitted.

Can i use this to put on the ground and put a shed on top ?

Answer

This product is designed to be installed in indoor flooring applications. While this product may work installing under the shed, it hasn't been tested to be used under subfloors. If you are installing the 6-mil vapor barrier on top of the concrete/wood subfloor, then yes you can use this product.

Answer

Hi Deborah, You will have to fix your current plywood that is rotted out. To prevent it from happening again, you would have to treat the crawl space with a vapor retarder. This should reduce/block the moisture from the dirt to your plywood. If the subfloor is plywood, you would look at installing a flooring underlayment underneath your laminate flooring. A 6-mil vapor barrier (MoistureBlock) is usually used for concrete subfloors that emit moisture.

My first question is why would anyone want to put hardwood flooring in a garage, but then not everyone uses a garage to house cars. This 6 mil polyethylene barrier would work just fine next to the slab. I have used in in my basement for the same purpose.

Answer

Installing the moisture barriers a couple of inches up the wall around the perimeter of the room is correct. The moisture needs to be routed to the walls and not your floor. If you have a concrete floor, a sill plate is used and should protect your walls from moisture.

What tape do you recommend for joining overlapping barrier where there is no strip?

Asked by NurseJoe September 18, 2020

Answer

Duct tape is what recommend if the product doesn't come with a built-in lip and tape system.

How do I install around edges of room? Is it recommended to staple at base of wall, or to use tape?

Asked by Tim August 10, 2020

Answer

Please float the moisture barrier. Use tape only if you need to keep it from slipping while installing.

can this be used between the subfloor and a second layer of plywood to protect flooring from a wet crawl space?

Asked by learning July 2, 2020

Answer

This could be used for that application however using this between the subfloor and a second layer of plywood could lead to rot and mold if the wet crawl space isn't treated. We suggest treating the crawl space first as this will prevent any issues with your flooring.

This product is horrible. It was heavily wrinkled right as we were unrolling it. Even worse when we taped the pieces together and followed the 8" overlap in the instructions. After unrolling it we could not get the wrinkles out. We mistakenly thought they would smooth out once the Pergo laminate flooring was installed on top of it, but it just caused a crinkly sound when we walked on the flooring. We decided to remove the flooring, rip up the underlayment and go back and install a better quality underlayment. What a waste of time and money this was. I strongly recommend NOT using this product!

Used this plastic as moisture barrier for basement wall of cement block. It was almost too thick - real overkill for the job I needed it for, but it worked great.

This stuff has been great to work with for me. It's super durable and it lies relatively flat with little effort. It is hard to get it perfectly flat (my job does not have that as a requirement) and gets even more so when you get to the end of the roll. So, be aware, if your vapor barrier needs to be perfectly flat, this may not work for you. Otherwise, you'll love it.

Worked great under the new Pergo floor. The sticky side is great and makes it easy to overlap. Thick and high quality plastic.
