Questions & Answers

How fast growing are these shrubs? About how many feet per year can I expect?

Asked by: Trisha
At least one foot per year but that will depend on its care. This plant will grow, but does not do well in densely shaded areas. The main reason being, folks will apply the same amount of water to the trees in maximum sun and dense shaded areas. When this happens, the shaded trees root system tend to oversaturate and depending upon the soil contents and Ph, this can slowly kill the tree...especially if it's planted near walnut trees or mulberry type shrubs.

My yard doesn't dry up/drain quickly after rain and snow will these survive? And will they help soak up some of water?

I'm in medina ohio
Asked by: Nick
I wouldn't chance it unless the area gets maximum sun better than 6 hours along with preparing the soil with a content to prohibit the root system from oversaturation. Putting this variety in a valley or gully type area would not be wise.

How far apart should I plant these?
Asked by: PaterMaximus
On the directions state 2 to 3 feet. If want closer and no opening or light between then go for the 2 feet since they can grow up to 3 feet wide

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with my little tree! The tree came in very nice packaging and the soil was still damp when it came. It is not quite as full looking as the picture shows but it's still alive after about 3 weeks and is super soft. I'm happy with it.

The plants were moist and very healthy. I was very impressed with their shipping. Some day they will provide a beautiful privacy screen. For now they are an attractive addition to our landscaping at our newly constructed home. I have always admired the arborvitae as I ride along & take in the scenery. Now I am excited to have others admire mine!

They appeared to have ample root systems, were in good, dark, rich soil, and their outward appearance was fine. I planted them immediately and watered them daily. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the hot sun baked them and I lost seven out of the fourteen plants that I had ordered. I'm not sure what I could have done differently to prevent this loss. Regardless, I now need to purchase seven replacement plants, but am very hesitant to do so at this time. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I am concluding that one should only plant such items in the early Spring or late Fall when the temperatures are milder. It was an expensive lesson to learn.
