how many gallons is the holly fern container that costs =/- $20.00? Can holly ferns be divided so that if I buy two and could cut them in 1/2 to get 4?
Asked by: Susie
I have divided them into 2, even 3 or 4 depending on how the rhizomes/roots are. The key is to get a nice clump of root for each division, properly attached. I then removed some of the leaves from each division to reduce water transpiration, and reduce the energy needed so it can focus on the roots. Every one of them survived and looks great now. It's not instant gratification but pays off in the longer run. The one I planted whole obviously looked very shows but the rest are catching up!
