Q:I don't have accurate MC meter. What's their moisture content? Or to what MC level manufacturer kiln dry it? I use to store them in garage for month before cut and glulam them to make ticker board, no problem with that but now I am in immediate need.

    Answer This Question

A:  Depends on the mill and product. Dimension Lumber 2″ thick and less than 14″ wide is required to be dry with a moisture content of 19% or less. Heavy Dimension Lumber (2×14 and wider, 2-1/2″ thick by all widths, and 3×3 and larger) and Timbers are not required to be dry unless specified.

Q:I am choosing to replace my floating stairs with the same 2-inch pine rather than try and sand the nearly black stain. Is this wood appropriate for floating stairs? I posted a few photos for visual. I sanded one step to see what is under.

Q:Is this wood treated with anything? Looking to make a raised garden bed and don’t want treated wood.

        Answer This Question

A:  This is not a treated product such as you would use for a base plate on a house. Wood that has not been pressure treated to the appropriate end use retention level will eventually decay when exposed to a moist environment. The decay is exacerbated when the wood is in direct contact with soil. If the design is non-structural it will work for a limited period of time but it will eventually have to be replaced.

A:  You will do a lot better with the Pressure Treated Wood, Use on the Bottom, Sides, and be sure to put in some corner supports. This will last longer, for the use of growing things

Perfect board for my dog pen project. Found this board in the clearance lumber rack for $7.12. It was slightly smudged - look like a forklift tire hit it maybe, but I put the smudged facing away and the dog pen is perfect and looks great! Love my Home Depot!!
