This Weyerhaeuser 2 in. x 4 in. x 8 ft. Rough Green Western Red Cedar Lumber is a unique and prestigious softwood with outstanding physical characteristics. It offers a rare combination of aesthetic appeal and durability, thanks to its natural decay-resistant composition. Western Red Cedar's superior dimensional stability means that, when properly installed and maintained, project components are likely to stay straight and flat, and resist warping and cupping - season after season. In addition, cedar is easy to cut, saw, and nail with common tools.
Appearance grade with tight sound knots and little to no wane
Lumber has a rough sawn surface for a natural appearance
Easy to finish with solid or oil-based stains and clear penetrating sealers
Great for outdoor projects like fences or pergolas and gazebos
Cedar's decay resistance allows it to be used in weather exposed applications, without a chemical treatment
A:Â S4S means the boards are surfaced-smooth on all four sides. If there is a KD in the terminology then he boards are put into a kiln and dried down to a certain moisture content. Rough Green Western Rede Cedar means the boards are rough with a texture and green - meaning it hasn't been put into a Kiln. Please inquire with your Home Depot store rep for further details.

A:Â If the cedar is Green it is suggested to wait 2-3 months so the wood can air dry.

A:Â Yes. I did. No issues. If you want decent, straight, not broken then pick out your own lumber. Â This is very rough and needs sanding if used for something other than fencing

I am baffled by the one star rating that is showing up for this product. I have used these studs many times over the years and I have always had good success. The biggest challenge with cedar can be if you are attempting to color match. Often times the colors of the different dimensional lumber types is significant (i.e., a pile of 2x4's vs. a pile of 4x4's vs. 2x6's). But then again - it's cedar, not some artificial product.

Rough, splintering, split at one end. A staff person helped me pick it out as I needed one ASAP and he said it was the best in the bunch.
