The PCV material that this tape is made from should not be a source of toxic materials, PVC pipe is commonly used to convey drinking water for human consumption. However, this tape was intended to be wrapped on the exterior surface of metallic pipes and not directly exposed to potable water. I would not think that there are likely to be any toxic effects from exposure to water in a fish tank but I can't guarantee this.
More likely yes you can use this but you should figure out from the local authority if they are okay with it & how they would like each wrap to be apart from its previous edge. Now here is the code answers: Per NEC section 501.10(A)(1) allows threaded steel intermediate metal conduit(IMC) to be installed in Class I, Division 1 and Class I, Division 2 applications. Just like rigid steel conduit. IMC can be installed in concrete, in direct contact with the earth, or in areas subject to severe corrosive influences where protected by corrosion protection and judged suitable for the condition. Just like rigid steel conduit. Where installed in contact with soil, steel RMC and IMC do not generally require supplementary corrosion protection unless. a. Soil resistivity is less than 2000 ohm-centimeter or b. Local experience has confirmed that the soil is extremely corrosive. The authority having jurisdiction has the authority to determine the need for additional protection. So the best thing to do is to check with the authority having jurisdiction, which must pre-approve the selected method. Usually 20 mil tape works in most areas if needed.
That's what I used it for and this tape seems well suited to the task.
This taoe is not for insulating. I use it to resist corrosion on metal pipes. I suppose it could be used to help hold pipe insulation in place.
This is a great tape to wrap copper, ABS, PVC, Galvanized & Black Pipes, & cast iron pipes. I would think it would also work on electrical wires but there are simpler & less costly tapes for using on electrical wires.
I would use Self Fusing Silicone Tape to repair a slow leak on pvc pipes.
This Orbit Pro-Pak pipe wrap tape is U.V. resistant per the Orbit website, but it does not show what the actual rating is.
Brian, all we can tell you is that this tape was not designed for that purpose - its intended application is for wrapping around sprinkler/irrigation pipe and systems.
Hi Mike, I'm not a professional but as an outside the box DIYer I would give it a try. I've used 10mil tape on my exposed water well pipes for years. Great stuff. Michael
