Questions & Answers

What size screws do I need to mount a ceiling light?

What size screws do I need to mount a ceiling light fixture onto this box? My old box broke and the the screws of my light fixtures a little too thick for this box. I bought 3 of these boxes and before I return them I just want to know if I can buy appropriate screws.
Asked by: Sonny
Screws for light fixtures are supposed to be 8-32 machine screws. Usually the ones provided with the fixture are the appropriate screws. Do not use wood or drywall screws, as technically that violates electrical code, and it often leads to causing problems using the appropriate screws later. 8-32 machine screws are available, in various lengths, to purchase separately in the small packages in the hardware section.

Can I insulate around and behind this box?

Asked by: Eg
Yes, these boxes are rated to be installed in locations that will be insulated.

Customer Reviews

25 cu. in. Round Hard Shell Ceiling Box is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine Good nails, plastic seems very strong, easy to mount at correct depth with little ear edges to get aligned. Don't know what screws to use for mounting the fixture. My wall light came with circular mount plate, but don't know how to mount that to the "3/0" or "4/0" box holes. Switch plate screws are too small diameter. Please add this info to the product specs so I can order a bag of the correct screws.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inspectors want a ground connection Great box construction, sure, but most electrical inspectors want a ground terminal on the box at rough inspection. Puchased a large amount of these and realized ther was none, so now wasting time searching for the terminals to get past the electrical inpection.
