A:  Ya as long as your boat don’t weight more than 3,300 lbs but you will only be able lift few inches at a time and re-adjust the strap cause it can only roll some much up before it won’t ratchet no more. Get a come a long…

A:  No. The ratchet only takes up a few inches. This is a tie-down, not a cable puller.

A:  Please note that ratchet tie down is not designed for lifting and it may leave color on the attaching surface.

Q:once it's tightened, how do you disengage?

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi Stan, while I hope a friend or user's manual has already come to your rescue, here is the answer: With your fingers wrapped around the rubbery grip on the end of the handle, relax your grip and point your fingers down towards the black plastic strip on the part that is half-way down to the rotating take-up rod (I'm assuming that you've wound up some belt on that). While keeping your palm on the rubber handle grip, wrap your finger tips over the black plastic strip, and pull it towards the handle. Holding it pulled up, rotate the handle away from the strap, as far as possible. Fully flat, no angle between the handle and the-end strap. In this position. the tabs that prevent the take-up reel from unwinding are released. You may have to pull really hard, but do so, on the short strap, and the wound-up end of the long strap will unwind and go right off the handle.

A:  You can use the lever inside the ratchet to release it.

A:  There is a small leveler inside the ratchet. When you tighten it, you can see it. You move the ratchet up and pull it up and you should be able to get the strap loose.

                Answer This Question

A:  If you can't move the handle enough to disengage it I would just cut it but stand clear of the strap. cut it on the long side not the ratchet side

                2 found this answer helpful

A:  if you disengage the locking mechanism on the handle that moves, you can adjust it's position so it can tighten the strap further. rotate that handle to tighten the strap just a hair. this will remove the pressure from the other locking mechanism. you can then unlock the locking mechanism on the fixed handle. the load will be held by your hand on the moving handle so be careful. allow the moving handle to rotate one tooth on the locking gear. repeat procedure until tension is reduced.

A:  You can try to open the handle fully and release the lever.

A:  Are you locking the handle all the way open? You shouldn't really be able to overtighten it. Open it all the way and pull the release in the center. Pull it up towards the end of the handle. If its stuck, you may need an extra set of hands. If none of that works and it really is jammed together, a sharp knife will be your friend.

A:  First, crank tighter somewhat to clear the gears, then release the other latch at the same time. You should be able to loosen it.

                      Only two ratchet tie downs
Only two ratchet tie downs were used to hold down a top heavy machine that went on a truck, train, and boat ride to South America. Fortunately the tie downs held in place. Here is a picture of the arrival of the machine with the tie downs.

These ratchet straps are awesome! For years I have used these kinds of straps that were only an inch and a half wide, and they always felt weak, but these things are just a step below what the truckers use for tying down loads. Just a note, I used them to connect to each other using the hooks. If you do this, you might find that the hooks are hard to get back apart. Its like a puzzle. Hard to explain, but it literally took me 20 minutes to get the hooks apart a couple of times. That is no reflection on the quality and easy to use straps that these things are. I was in the store a week later looking at other stuff, and I was telling another customer about these things and showed him the picture and he grabbed two sets, and said thanks.

We hauled 8000 lbs of freezer panels on a car hauler for 500 miles and they were just as tight after the trip as when we started. There was no movement of the load. They performed extremely well.

It does what it's supposed to do. The handle part is a bit longer than other brands so you can get some good leverage. The j hooks link together. Some brands don't do that very well.
