Q:Do they grow well in Western Mass?
by|Jun 1, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  The Podocarpus is a shrub for USDA Zones 7-9 which prefers the high heat and humidity of the southern USA and will not tolerate prolonged temperatures below 55 deg F. It is not recommended to grow this plant outdoors in western MA. This is a Yew for the Southern climates and is not the common northern Yew variety, aka Taxus.

Q:I would like to plant aa podocarpus hedge 25 ft long with a maintained height of 18”
    by|Sep 5, 2019

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, thank you for your question. For a quick privacy hedge, the Podocarpus can be planted 3-4 ft. apart. You would need 6-8 plants total. To achieve desired height, simply trim back the branches to the height desired each time the plant grows taller.
