What does elevation have to do with it?

The description says the unit is good up to 4500' elevation. Is this because of expected temperatures above that elevation or does it have to do with the amount of oxygen in the air? I live at 5600' in SE Arizona. Is there a different model that would work better here?
Asked by: Stoderlele
As altitude increases, the air gets thinner. Unless thinner air is compensated for in the burner design and adjustment, the mixture will get richer and richer as altitude increases. This will result in excess carbon monoxide and unburned fuel being produced, which is dangerous. The effect is entirely due to air pressure, not temperature. I don’t know of another model being available, as I am not a company representative.

hi, does this heater need to have blower installed before it will work
Asked by: carl
The heater will work without the blower. The blower unit is an add-on that helps drive the heated air more evenly over the heated area.

30,000 BTU/Hr Direct-Vent Furnace Natural Gas Heater with Wall or Cabinet-Mounted Thermostat is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 150.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Purchased in 2013, 4 years and 4 repairs. Now the starter/generator broke, meaning the pilot won't stay on. Parts are expensive and shipping crazy prices. So far I've replaced parts myself. Can't imagine have a plumber come over every time the unit fails. PS: blower option waste of money. Noisy and notbpowerful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had this heater installed in my garage... I had this heater installed in my garage to replace a vent-free heater that was about a year old. The vent-free worked great but the smell in my garage from fumes was awful even with the window wide open. The Williams direct vent furnace looks good, heats my 400 sq ft garage easily, and best of all does not stink! The exhaust smell is almost non-existent. I leave it on a low setting all the time since I use the garage as a workshop and it's like being in the house. I have had it for about one month and hopefully Williams makes a durable product. Time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Heater, Excellent Value I bought this heater to heat my back porch. The area I needed to heat is about 15X10, no heat run and many drafts. The heater does an excellent job of heating the area. The packaging was not the best but I escaped with no damaged parts. Installation was a little challenging but that is probably because I am not a heating and cooling person. All in all I would recommend this heater to anyone who wants to heat a good sized space that a space heater just will not keep up with. I added a programmable thermostat to knock the heat down at night and during the day when we are not around. The price is fair for what this heater is capable of...

Fairly easy to install (somewhat heavy), very quiet and heats up (big garage space) nicely. However, there's a faint but clear odor after it's been running a while. Maybe it's just new, but smells a bit more like combustion gas? Venting was installed and sealed exactly as indicate in instructions... Perhaps additional seals would have helped(?) or maybe it will go away. Not terrible but I'd try another one if I had to do this again.
