You need 5 pieces to complete a casing for BOTH sides of the door.
I countersunk the nails and covered the holes with wood putty. Just want a heads up when it's time to sand the wood putty. Should I avoid sanding the board?

Yes it is. However, make sure you seal the bottom and edges from water and moisture. If you want something maintenance free, try looking for this trim in pvc or azek plastic material.

Thomas, Outdoor use is not reccomended for this product. It does not withstand moisture very well.
Definitely not good for outdoor use. This is essentially saw dust that is pressed & formed, it will swell up and disintegrate when wet. You'll want to find a product made with PVC; I have bought a door trim kit made from PVC so I'd hope this type of trim is available in PVC as well. God Bless - Philippians 4:19
No, this is an MDF product and will deteriorate in the elements. I would use real wood or a PVC type product for outdoors.

This is supposed to be...should be the standard (at least for pattern 356) 11/16" thick. So why is this 3/32" thinner, or is that incorrect and they really are 11/16"? Thanks.
There are 11/ 16 thick they are the same.
Clint, 11/16" is the standard for Pine and Primed Finger-Joint Items in the 356 Casing. MDF is slightly different standard and is always a little smaller.
