Thank you for posting your inquiry. The EMCO 200 Series Traditional Storm Door does not come pre-hung (pre-framed) and requires re-drilling and attaching of hinge and latch rails to the door frame. - Noel

This door is subject to weather, not under a porch. Is it made with particle board?
Asked by: Bearears
Not particle board, but treated wood as I believe is stated in the description. I've had my door more than a little while and the only place I saw water getting in it was at the adjustable piece at the bottom of the door. I laid a bead of caulk to try to prevent this from happening. Owner now since 9/17.

36 in. x 80 in. 200 Series Bronze Traditional Storm Door is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 386.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would recommend These are not the most expensive storm doors on the market but I'm very happy with mine. I had full glass Larson doors on the front and back doors of the house that I hated. I will never buy a Larson door. The panel is held in with plastic clips which soften with heat and UV and then start to fall out randomnly allowing the panel to fall out. I did not smash the Larson doors with a sledge when I pulled them out even though I really wanted to. I won't have to worry about the glass panel falling out of these Emco doors. The door is Aluminum clad with a particle board core. They look very nice. The window does not lock in the full down position but if you wanted it to you could cut notches in the guides to allow it. I'm not concerned about it myself. I have not had any issues with leakage either around the frame or thru the window. As a note the top gap door to frame does seem a little wider than it should be, but like I've said I haven't had any water come thru.

By definition a "Storm" door gets exposed to the elements. Go ahead and weigh your new door on bathroom scales, record the weight, and when the door sags off the hinges remove it and weigh it again. The door core is constructed of unsealed particle board that sucks up moisture like a sponge and swells. The vinyl and/or aluminum skin do not protect it from water intrusion. Look at the top corners of the door and the bottom seal plate. They allow water to soak into the core like a sponge. After freeze thaw cycles the top of the door will pull away from the weak hinge design due to both the increase in weight and the soaking of the core down to the poorly designed hinge attachment arrangement. The hinge is not a robust "piano" style hinge either. It is a weak pin and spring with plastic bushings.

I looked for a door to replace a full glass storm door and one that appeared sturdy enough to support the cutting-in of an extra-large dog door and I found it in this. Studying its instructions and the instructions of the PetSafe dog door closely, checking and rechecking measurements, I was able to install the door in an afternoon. You can find a more expensive door and one that incorporates a pet door, but I couldn't find one that accommodated an adult German Shepherd. This product may not be suitable for the the occasional do-it-yourselfer, but someone with moderate skills would not have a problem replacing/installing this door. Take your time, check and recheck and you'll do fine!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Door for Sunporch This review is for my parents new sunporch door. They had it installed by Home Depot, and I am not too impressed with the finished job for the price charged to have it installed. Since this review is about the door itself, I digress about the installation. It is a sturdy door, wood core, because it needed to be trimmed to fit the existing area. If you or a contractor are installing this door in an existing area that needs to be built up, especially in an aluminum frame, enclosed sunporch, make sure you trim out the inside if you want to improve the finished appearance. The door is functional and does as designed, but the major disappointment is the sill. If you get a good horizontal rain, you will get water inside since the slope of the sill allows for the water to collect behind the screen and pass through closed window. It does not appear that this issue can be adjusted. For anyone who has this issue, a quick fix is simple weatherstripping. In a non-heated sunporch, weatherstripping is kind of unnecessary in general for the windows, but for the window on this door, it makes a significant difference keeping the precipitation out during heavy rains.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Door, Straightforward installation My local store surprised me by having this 30" door in stock. It looks great, is fairly heavy and seems well-built given the modest price. The install was pretty simple but will go easier and faster if you have a cordless drill and driver, since there are many holes to drill and screws to install. It does take a fair amount of time (about 2 hrs for me - with a reasonable skill level) but if you read the directions carefully it's almost foolproof. The only issue I encountered is that I couldn't get the closer tension adjusted to where the door would close and latch reliably when the inner door is closed without it slamming when the inner door is open. The air trapped between the two doors is just enough resistance to prevent the storm door from latching. Apparently the seal around this door is a little TOO effective.

If this door is placed where it is not sheltered by an overhang, water WILL get inside and it WILL expand the "wood" core, causing the door to burst. Photos attached are how my door appears after five years. EMCO has honored the warranty, and will replace the door panel for free (if I wanted to order the frame as well, they'd charge me $46.) I asked them if they'd redesigned the door to prevent the same thing happening; they confirmed that they have not, though they're obviously aware of the issue. Also, the replacement door's warranty starts at the time of the ORIGINAL door, so it will only have 5 years of warranty, not 10. I wish EMCO would change the design, and/or that Home Depot would carry a similar door by a manufacturer who uses foam instead of wood in their doors.

Installation was straightforward and the finished product looks good and operates smoothly. Took me about 2 hours to install this on my own. A good amount of assembly was required, but that's because the hinge side is adjustable. Basic tools are all that's necessary and the instructions are easy to follow. Only slight negative, the back of the door is smooth, no panels.

There were several places where we added silicone to seal the inner wood core of the door to keep the rain from damaging the core. This is something that the manufacturer should address. Storm doors are exposed to rain and snow and should be designed to hold up to the elements.
