No - the upper window slides down in front of the lower window bringing the screen down. This is the feature I like best - it prevents children and critters from damaging the screen.

Simply press in the two Gray push button latches hidden underneath the top pane at the same time and then carefully let the windows slide down the track offering it support from the weight and when you get it to where you want it if not all the way down just released the two buttons on the latch and it should hold in several of the available notches. Or let it go all the way down so both windows are shut. I've had many of those doors and after a few years the latches usually one of them break so you're stuck keeping it in one position if you wanted it open you could put a screw in there sheet metal screw, and it would hold in place of the latch.

After looking through the Q and As, I see other people have asked if the door closer is included, to which, the answer has been yes. I looked through the descriptions, specs and installation instructions, and none of those mention anything about the door closer. On the instructions, it's not listed as one of the parts and there are no instructions on installation. Can someone please clarify if in fact the closer is included (shock closer?), and what kind? Thank you.
Asked by: Sher
Yes, there is a door closure that is installed near the bottom of the door, under the window, and then there is a spring and chain device that attaches at the top.

Customer Reviews

36 in. x 80 in. 400 Series Sandtone Universal Self-Storing Aluminum Storm Door with Brass Hardware is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 1066.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised The directions were pretty well written and well diagrammed. I took the time and reviewed them several times before starting this project, but seriously, with the way the parts (screws, bolts, etc.) are organized and separated in color coded bags, if you follow the directions in a "step by step" manner, I'd be willing to say that almost anyone could have a very successful installation without problems. I gave 4/5 for 'Value' because I think the price could be a little lower. The 'Quality' got 4/5 only because I found a few microscopic imperfections. These imperfections are not noticeable and I probably would not have found them if I wasn't the type to scrutinize things so closely. My only real concern is that I'm wondering how long the tension system will last on the self storing screen. The "Sandstone" color with the nickle door hardware is a wonderful look. We have white siding without much to break up the visual impact. The long wall of white now has a very elegant splash of color.

We chose this door for the self storing screen and the appearance as it pertains to our home. We also liked that it came with the handle hardware. The instructions were not ultra clear and the drawings left us puzzled at times as this was our first storm door installation. If you really want to understand how to install a storm door beyond the installation instructions, check out Youtube for great instructions on installing this exact door. When we were stumped, we were able to visually see the installation and it was a huge help understanding how this all goes together. I wish we had found the installation on YouTube before we were half way through the installation as it would have sped things up and helped us understand better how it all went together so definitely check it out before you start to save time! Besides the installation directions being weak, we love this door, and we are so happy with it!!!

The way the screen slides up and down the track... BUT the screen is junk. Probably the cheapest screen out there. You would assume that a Pet screen would be the "go to" for ANY screen door. The screen edging is open. If I had my front porch light on, my gap between my storm door and screen would be loaded with bugs. The gap between the track and screen will let ANY type of bug in. I was going to buy another one for my side door. After seeing the craftsmanship, I decided AGAINST it. The door did NOT come with instructions and the customer service was flat out RUDE. We followed with what we could find on the internet, in regards to instructions, and of course, cut the door wrong. There are NOT any pre-cut handle holes and we were off by an inch. THANK YOU Home Depot for exchanging it for a new one, though. It was a complete nightmare. I am keeping this door in my "NEVER BUY AGAIN" List on here. I will NOT Make the same mistake twice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy, it won't last. Most recent purchase began to rot after only 3 years. The first I purchased had a 12 year warranty in 2004; however, it rotted and failed in 2012, and Emco was good enough to replace the door, but not cover any of the reinstallation cost. So, it was replaced in 2012. I made a mistake of replacing with the same door, thinking it was an odd situation. Now it is 3 years though the first door took 8 years to rot, the replacement door rotted in only 3 years. I also noticed that they no longer offer a 12 year warranty, the reason is obvious. I am now waiting to see if Emco will again replace the door, except this time I'll be smarter and pay more money for an upgrade, if I have that opportunity. Unfortunately, it will be a major problem to return the door to the store, as I now have a bad back and no longer own a truck. I expected higher quality out of a division of Anderson and am very disappointed. Now if I get another door, it will end up costing me 3 times for the installation.

The covering come's off the door, sine side and out side in different places The insulation fall out in each side. Can not just replace the door You need to get a hing also :( You can NOT get at the hing screws :) It has taken so far 6 mouths to get the wrong color and wrong size, Started in Fall of 2018 SEP. now is May 2019 no door yet !

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Corodes bady in less than 2 years I purchased this EMCO door in Jan of 2012 from Home Depot. The lower portion of the door corroded badly within 2 years in 3 places. I went back to Home Depot to try to get a new door 3 weeks ago. I provided all receipts, pictures serial number etc. The warranty on the door is a full 10 yrs warranty. They said they are still negotiating with Emco. Emco answered them that they will provide a new front panel but not the whole door. The front panel covers the whole door! Maybe 5 hrs labor or more to change that out. Then they told the rep at Home Depot that they still the use pressed wood inside for strength and when that gets wet it corrodes. They said if I want a door that will last the warranty period I have to upgrade to the 4000 series at my own expense. I still do not have an answer from Home Depot on getting a refund. I never will purchase an EMCO door again!

Installed ok. Over the winter the door "warped". When it is closed the bottom is flush and normal and the top is about an inch away. See pictures. I called the warranty department and I swear I have sent over 15 pictures of this and they keep asking for more pictures. I doubt they are going to warranty it. Also their "support", if you could call it that, is over seas and you can barely understand them. To make matters worse they just regurgitate emails from the warranty dept. So the ACTUAL people you need to talk to are unavailable. It's very frustrating and I would never wish this on my worst enemy. Horrible dealing with EMCO. Plus when you give a bad review they put under it a notice to "call their support". If you see one under this one just know I am laughing at it.
