A:  Yes you can write on the tape. I used a marker not a pen or  pencil.

Q:How do you get the tape off the roll without it ripping and sticking to the roll edges? Very frustrating to get a long piece going and then it rips coming off the roll.

Q:What is the difference between masking tape, and regular blue tape?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for our inquiry, the 2020 Masking tape has a 3 day clean removal time, where the 2090 Painters Tape has a 14 day removal. Ultimately the adhesive on a masking tape is a bit more aggressive then that of a painter's tape. A:  One is blue. The other not. Jk. The blue tape is better at pulling a clean straight line with no bleed underneath.. paint tends to get under the other

A:  “Regular blue tape” is also masking tape. There are different properties that claim to make less paint bleed underneath. This tape tears easier than the more expensive blue or green tapes. So be aware of that. It’ll also stick to the surface a little more, so you have to remove it sooner. Use clear caulking for perfect lines.

A:  regular masking tape can leave glue residue on surfaces including painted or wood finished surfaces, blue tape should not leave any glue residue on surfaces.

Has good adhesiveness as it sticks well to dry concrete and asphalt for bordering basketball court paint striping lines, especially so on above 60-degree days.

              Garbage
The only thing this tape actually sticks to is itself. Do Not use it if you are trying to make clean lines. The adhesion is Terrible. I thought I would save myself a dollar by using this instead of the blue stuff I normally use… HUGE Mistake.

                Comparable to blue tape
Pretty good for the money. Half the price of the blue tape amd does the same thing.

This tape needs better and larger use for label
I purchased this tape from HD to mask off our flooring. Turns out I should have never put it on wood!!!! In tiny print inside of the tube of tape, the instructions state do not use on wood. This would be nice if it was visible in the poorly lit Home depot. it has been on our wood floors for two days. I removed a 12" section for a test to see if it would come up, thankfully it did. Had I known up front that this product is not for wood I would have went with a better tape.

Spend the money get the blue tape
You know what happens when the adhesive is to strong and the paper is too weak? The tape rips leaving parts in corners. This tape is no good. I know it's cheaper but next time I will spend money on blue stuff. It also leaks paint under the tape No good.

Very bad! It will rip paint off the wall!
See pics, picture worth a thousand words! Note how the contractor grade tape this one I am reviewing the yellow color is peeling off paint when you take it off, but notice how the more expensive blue tape made by 3M does not peel paint away. Stopsellingit

I've used the 0.94 #2020CG tape on two different projects, using the hand masker for both paper and 3M MFB-9 9' film while I was painting my daughter's room. The old paint (Behr) was on the walls for about 9 years. For prep, I sanded the walls, repaired some damaged areas, and sprayed 2 coats of Kilz2 latex primer. I applied 9' 3M film to cover the walls about 6" below the ceiling line, and laid 12" paper over the top of the film. I used the same tape to apply both the film and the paper. After I sprayed the ceiling, I immediately removed the paper, and was shocked to see that the tape was pulling off multiple layers of paint, all the way down to bare drywall. This happened on all of the walls in the room, including the closet which has 16 year-old paint on it. After I pulled the paper off, I removed the film, and it also removed primer coats and paint in the areas that it was applied. I called customer service, and they said that they would send me a few rolls of blue tape and that I could initiate a claim, where I would need to submit receipts for the products I purchase if I was going to repair it myself, or get quotes from 3 contractors for repairs. I'm not going to hire a contractor when the product I purchased is defective, and is probably going to cause the same issue for him when he uses the same tape to mask off an area like I did. I had an extremely hard time finding a painting contractor to paint a house I was renovating that wasn't booked at least 6 weeks out, and the ones who were available, you wouldn't want to let them set foot in your own personal home. The house I recently renovated needed over 2000 LF of baseboard repainted, so my wife and I spent 2 days doing prep and masking off the floors with Frog Tape, and the top of the baseboard with this same product. The tape was on the drywall for 3 days, and when it was removed, I had the same issue of tearing of brand new paint, and paper off of the drywall. It turned a 3 day project into a week-long headache. When you own your own business, errors like this cause you extensive stress that shouldn't be happening. One thing I can say about this product is that it sure sticks to things when they go into the trash, and that's the best place for this stuff. If you're a glutton for punishment, and like to do rework, use this product. Otherwise, save your money and buy a product that doesn't make your life more difficult. 3M should revise this product where it won't remove day old and 16-year old paint, revise their labelling to include a BEWARE sticker that this tape is not for masking off walls where you want to keep any kind of paint on your drywall. If you want to see my video evidence, just look on YouTube and type in "Review of 3M 2020CG masking tape. BEWARE!"

Hello - We are sorry to hear of the trouble. This tape is not recommended for use on fresh paint. We also warn against use on wallboard, wallpaper, and wood floors due to its high adhesion level. For fresh paint we would only recommend the use of our Scotch Painters Tape for Delicate Surfaces #2080, this can be applied to painted surfaces that are 24 hours old. Our 2020CG tape is designed for use on surfaces such as unfinished wood, trim, vinyl, metal, plastic, and carpet. It should be removed from these surfaces within 3 days. Please feel free to connect with our product support team at 1-800-494-3552 M-F 8am-5pm CT, if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you. 3m-country-catalog

Able to do the job intended has good sticking characteristics. Price is good and width is perfect. Only complaint is slight bleed through at edges and tears easily on removal. Great for DIY ers but if you want professional results need to buy better quality scotch product
