Questions & Answers

will this bond vinyl corner bead well to joint compound and setting compound?

will this bond vinyl corner bead well to joint compound and setting compound?
Asked by: Landon
Yes, as long as the joint compound/setting compound surface is dry. Think contact adhesive - it will bond anything (including corner bead of course) to any solid surface.

Will this work on an alrealdy painted surface

Asked by: N443
While I have not used it on a painted surface, I tend to think if the surface is clean and the paint is well bounded to the substrate and you can do a light sanding on the surface it should bound.

Can you explain why this is not recommended for inside corners (paper backed metal inside corner bead)?

Asked by: Clb
This is just a guess, but the tack is immediate when you press the sprayed surfaces together. It might be hard to position the inside corner bead exactly the way you want it if it sticks to the wall immediately. Other than that, I don't know why it wouldn't at least hold the bead in place long enough for you to set it in mud or setting compound.

can i use this product to lay vinyl or linoleum flooring

Asked by: edub
No, the tack is immediate when sprayed but it's not particularly strong. Your flooring would peel up in a day or two.

The spray held the tape in place while applying the joint compound. It would have been difficult 2 use the previous method of joint compound only and the tape. I would advise caution however in applying the adhesive to both the wall and the tape. Doing this provides immediate adhesion and allows very little leeway if the tape needs to be adjusted in any way. Especially on inside corners. I will use it again being aware of the application to both surfaces. And I never give a 5 rating as the longevity of a product is always in question.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked as advertised. I had never installed corner bead, so I watched a few how-to videos. Rega... Worked as advertised. I had never installed corner bead, so I watched a few how-to videos. Regardless of the material selected (metal, paper with metal strips, vinyl, other?), it occurred to me that nailing the material could lead to bulges or puckering. I decided to go with vinyl and adhesive. Work like a charm. The adhesive is a little messy, but manageable. The only complaint I have is I could not find instructions on the can for removing unwanted residue. With some experimentation, determined mineral spirits will remove adhesive (I needed it to remove it from my hands).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works on outside, plastic corners. No issues I've not used this on inside or on paper corners. Only outside, plastic corner bead. I've had no failures of the corners in rooms now in service for 4-plus months (as of late 10/2011). I apply a liberal coat of the adhesive, making sure to allow a full tack to develop. Applying it too wet, or not allowing the tack to develop, is asking for problems. Also, don't coat the cornerbead with mud until the adhesive has had a good amount of time to dry. The instructions say 30 minutes, but I normally let it go at least an hour - overnight if I'm able. It's worked well enough for me that I'm going to get a few more cans for the next phase of this project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Anything worth doing is worth doing right... I continue to use this product for not only inside and outside corners (plastic) but also with perforated paper tape on small repairs.. Countless jobs with absolutely NO problems.. But, 3 things must absolutely be done... Apply ample product completely to BOTH surfaces.. Allow the product to tack off before applying the bead to the wall.. A MINIMUM of 1-2 hours dry time before applying mud... (the more time the better) If these steps are not followed you will have the same problems as the other one star reviews on this page...
