Trying to seal a pool light. Will this last underwater?

Asked by: Aaron
Do not use this on anything that you may want to remove later without destroying one or both items.

im wanting to attach a 2x4 to the top of my pop up camper lid for bicycle mounts will it hold at 60mph down highway

Asked by: Scott
If the 2x4 comes off it will be because the surface layer of the top separated from the layers underneath, not because the adhesive failed. This stuff is permanent if the material to which it is attached does not fail. You could attach your bike to your F-16 if you have one.

What temperature can you apply the sealant in?

What temperature can you apply the sealant in?
Asked by: Dee
Hello, the minimum application temperature for the 3M™ Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 is 40 Degrees F. Do not apply at temperatures below 40°F (4°C) or on frost covered surfaces. Suggested application temperature should be 70 Degrees F. Applying at lower than recommend temperatures will cause for a slower than normal cure.

Customer Reviews

3 oz. Marine Adhesive Sealant is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sealant for pond and submersible pumps I sealed the gaskets between thick epdm liner and skimmer and overflow unit of my pond with 5200, perfecto ! Additionally, I sealed the internal and external gasket of a (supposedly) submersible pumpS that let introduce small amount of water into it (and destroyed the motor after some time). 5200 (you need to be patient) is the best adhesive tested, regarding other glues. And because it has some flexibility, it's better than epoxy in case of vibrations. And the seal is kept OK even in the winter (Quebec = -30 celsius), embedded in strong ice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Literally the best sealant I've used 5200 for a number of applications, the most critical of which was for the installation of two large brass port hole windows on a house. This was in an area that is bordered by the ocean on one side and the bay on the other. The windows were mounted with 21 lag bolts and flashed/sealed with 5200. Created an absolutely water and wind proof seal as well as adding some additional structural strength. Yes, it's pricey but it's also necessary when dealing with critical installations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No-brainer for inflatable boat repair Tried this after reading some great reviews in various dingy forums re: transom repairs, specifically reattaching the PVC flooring where it meets the transom. PVC giue won’t stick to wood, but hypalon glue will, yadda yadda yadda. Tried it, didn’t work like previous PVC repairs. Enter the 5200. Not only did it stick the PVC fabric to the wood but it held like iron, and I have enjoyed many many hours in a boat that was destined for the nearest dumpster box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repaired vinyl pool liner In spite of the fact that the specs do not indicate its use for vinyl, I used this two years ago to apply a large patch/repair to my vinyl pool liner. The hole in the liner that was originally cut to accommodate the water supply/return from the pump had become significantly stretched to the point the original seals were not effective. I wanted to apply new material to both sides of the liner and I needed a bonding agent that was not a "fast setting". Using flexible, heavy gauge vinyl I cut and applied patches to both sides of the liner using generous amounts of 5200 on both sides. I allowed two days for the sealant to set before cutting a new hole through the patch. It worked perfectly and has continued to hold for two years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Greatest thing since sliced bread ! Used this on boats maybe 30 yrs. Put a soapstone sink together with this product after 20 yrs still no leaks ! You may want to let people know that mineral spirits is good for spreading and clean up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor result after one season I used 5200 to seal 3 glass prisms to their stainless steel frames and then to the deck two began to leak the first season the third leaked the second season. The solution was to dig out the sealer and use a different product, very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bonding wood to shiny metal surface Bought this glue to bond wood to a shiny metal magnet. Worked like a charm. Just a dab will do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong and paintable Used for the keel of my wooden/classic boat as the seam started to seperate and the guard was not able to secure to the boat. WOW - unreal how strong this bond is for wood.
