Best to apply before winter hits. Haven't had good success with the adhesive holding if you apply after it gets below freezing. It will form a better bond if you do it when it is warm. Also make sure the surface it cleaned well before you try to apply it.
I need additional tape
Depends on how good your seal is!
No hair dryer is required. This product is installed by first roughly fitting the plastic film over the patio door frame (the trim) via the two-sided tape, then tightly fitting the film by lifting and re-adhering a section at a time to achieve a tight, nearly invisible installation. Achieving a good seal at the threshold can be tricky. This product seals best if the film perimeter adheres to a surface which is 90 degrees from the broad surface of the patio door. For instance, if a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood represents your patio door, excellent results can be achieved by applying the two-sided tape to the thin edges of the plywood and stretching the film over the entire sheet. Good results also can be obtained by applying the two-sided tape to the flat surface of the plywood and then installing the film. However, other installation configurations are not likely to provide satisfactory results. Example: if a 9 x 13 cake pan represents the opening you are attempting to seal, and you apply the two-sided tape to the vertical surfaces of the inside of the pan, the film will pull off fairly easily in windy conditions. Because the trim at my threshold extends about an inch beyond the the other trim pieces, I solved my threshold problem by constructing a wood filler of two heavy 2x4's to lie on the threshold. I screwed them together with exterior screws, cut them to fit snugly within the opening, then applied two coats of a primer made for sealing wood that would receive adhesives. When completed, the front edge of this filler piece was flush with the other door trim pieces. I then applied the two-sided tape to the front of this device and to the thin edges of the other door trim pieces and installed the film. I discovered that tightly stretched film tended to pull the wood filler piece out of position, but I slightly relaxed the film to remedy this situation.
Can be used on metal frame. Adhesion depends on seal tape you use. If opening and closing of door scrapes the seal, it probably will eventually peel. Make sure there is no trapped air.
Cut to desire size. I do the same with all the various kits
Online only.
I ordered a different brand that stays stuck when the temperature drops drastically
It would be best if you contact 3M directly. I trimmed the excess film after covering my patio door again this year and have no way of knowing the original dimensions.
This product is designed for exterior use. It stretches tightly to a clear, nearly invisible appearance. It is not a shrinkable plastic. // Indoor shrinkable products are readily available online.
