Yes, they would work fine for that. I find them to be very comfortable and effective while running my CNC Router and ShopVac. If you want something more discreet for a concert, there are ear plugs designed for concerts. Search High Fidelity Ear Plugs or concert hearing protection. Normal conversation ~ 60 dB A loud concert ~ 120 dB. Depends on the hardhat. I wear mine with a hardhat and they do hold the hardhat up a bit.

Your best bet is to try a pair on with Hard Hat, sometimes they dont expand enough to fit over head gear.
