Are the straps adjustable? I would be purchasing one for multiple people and am trying to decide if medium is going to be a correct size.
Asked by: BP
The straps are adjustable. However, it is recommended to purchase the large size and adjust the straps to fit.

Asked by: Mechanic
I have not used the respirator for that purpose and am not comfortable offering an opinion on that question. My suggestion is to call the 3M Help Center at 800 364-3577 and pose that question to that area. I have done in the past and found them to be very helpful.

I have to clean up some lime will this mask work against the dust and fumes of the lime
Asked by: steve
Your question would be best directed to the manufacturer. I never new lime to have fumes but I’m pretty sure the mask will handle any particulate matter from from pulverized lime or chemical hydrate lime. As for pelletized or granular lime, I don’t believe there would be any dust. I hope this helps. The bottom line is always refer to the manufacturer to determine the limitations of the type of filter.

I’ve owned the last three models of this respirator, and I’ve noticed the quality go consistently down. The company has a nasty habit of discontinuing the manufacturing of the cartridges therefore making each apparatus obsolete. So I’m forced to buy the “new” model that will work with the “new” cartridges. The problem is, however, that each new rendition of this respirator is cheapened. This latest model is really cheaply made and the engineering is very poor. In an attempt to save some money they have created a clumsy respirator that is difficult to use...particularly in shop conditions. I will not buy this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding for homeowner/casual use This is a well made, economically priced respirator and I bought two, one for me, and one for shop visitors. I don't need a respirator all day every day, but I do use dangerous solvents for extended times often enough that merely working in a well ventilated area is not sufficient. If you are a professional painter or work daily in toxic atmospheric environments, give these a pass and do be prepared to spend about five times the cost of this reasonably priced and perfectly serviceable respirator. But if you are a hobby woodworker who needs protection for an occasional use of lacquer thinner, mineral spirits or other solvents, these are just the ticket. Do be aware that all carbon filter respirators have a service life based on a maximum number of hours of exposure to a solvent laden atmosphere. If you open these up, install the cartridges, and throw them in a drawer, they are losing some service life just absorbing trace pollutants in the atmosphere. I seal mine up in a heavy duty zip closure plastic storage bag between uses in order to maximize the time between filter changes.

The respirator works fine until the straps loose all elasticity (within a year). Then, I called 3M, and they had no replacement straps (Part 6281) on hand. They offered to contact Home Depot for a refund if I could produce my receipt from within the year. No finding that receipt. So, I now have two unsafe respirators. Thank you 3M. Not my daddies 3M anymore!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Conflicting info and photos here- this model does not have the dropdpwn feature I ordered this 3M Professional Multi-Purpose Respirator from the Home Depot website and ended up returning it because it was not quite as described. The summary for this model, the 62023HA1, states this respirator has a drop-down feature, when in fact it does NOT have the drop-down feature; It turns out for that you need model 62023DHA1-C...which happens to be incorrectly pictured here (in the photo that does not show the packaging. The other photo that DOES show the packaging IS correct for this model 62023HA1.) While this product was in my hands, I noticed that nothing on the outer or inner packaging for this model mentions it having the drop-down feature, plus this respirator has a slightly different appearance from the one with the drop-down, most noticeable is that this one has a circular piece at mouth level. (When searching the Internet I noticed other companies selling this 62023HA1 have the same misinformation about it having the drop-down feature, so I'm guessing 3M provided an incorrect description.) Basically, if you want the drop-down feature, look for a "D" in the model number; this one does NOT have it.

After years of using the cheap paper masks, I got serious and bought the 3M 6200 medium mask. Great choice! I'm 6' 1" and 160 just to give you a reference. I've used the mask for drywall sanding and when applying drywall sealer that had an inordinately high VOC level of fumes. In both cases, I could breathe easily. Amazingly, I never smelled the fumes, but the minute I took off the mask and went back in the room, the fumes were too bad too stay there and work. I was remodeling three bathrooms so the spaces were rather confined. You will have to twist the filter cartridges on with what may seem like too much force. One drawback to the mask is that it makes you sweat where the rubber seal contacts your skin. You'll probably want to remove it after 30 to 60 minutes of work just to relax a bit. Another issue is that while you can wear glasses and use the mask, it is likely your glasses will ride up higher on your nose because they rest on the top edge of the mask. You get used to it while working. BUT, if you wear progressive lenses and you go down steps wearing the mask, it is dangerous because your sense of where the stairs are is wrong. It could be easy to overstep the tread and go tumbling down. Be very careful. All that said, I still think this is a great product.
