How does this protect against smoke and fire?

I have not experienced either situation, fire or smoke, but here are my thoughts. For smoke, to the extent the particulates are at or over the rated filtration it should work as described. But, everything else in the air will soon be in your lungs. As for fire, GET OUT!

They have remained relatively inexpensive for what they provide. Not quite a full-on protective apparatus but highly effective for quick protection, and with the exhale valve provide superior use for more than just a couple moments. You can wear one for a couple hours in a dust environment and feel well protected.Thanks, Brent

I have tried everything from surgical masks to underwear over the head, but this mask completely eliminates the odors of her bad attempts at culinary artistry. Thank you, Home Depot!
