Questions & Answers

what is the shelf life of scotch blue tape

Asked by: murdock
When the tape gets old it is hard to peel from the roll. Warming it in a microwave oven for 20 seconds softens the adhesive so it can be used.

how soon after painting does the tape have to be removed?

I finished painting my living room ceiling, waited about 20 minutes and attempted to remove the tape. most of it came off, but have to back with razor blade to get the rest off of the hardwood trim . Also, can i leave it on after priming , wait for primer paint to dry, finish paint the room and then remove the tape?
Asked by: bullhead
You should remove the tape prior to paint completely drying to avoid pulling paint from area. remove tape while paint is tacky for best results. Pull tape towards the painted area and not away.

How do I remove the residue adhesive after only 24 hours on an uncoated stone tile?

The tile in the picture has been washed with detergent and scrubbed with mineral spirits. If the tiles were still outside, I could wet diamond polish. They are inside now where the water spray would do damage. The tape was 1 inch Scotch-Blue used to assist aligning the tiles.
Asked by: stone cutter
I was able to remove residue adhesive using a fine grade steel wool. Try it on an inspicuous area first to make sure it does not mar the stone surface.

You are giving us less tape for we pay more money. What is 1.88" Every product now is less (i.e. 64oz is now 59oz, 96oz is 89oz, etc...). I use to buy half gallon cartons of ice cream. Not anymore. It is less than a half gallon.

I only used the Scotch blue original tape one time and that was all that it took to destroy the wall paint that I was trying to protect. The paint that the "blue original" pulled off of the wall when it was removed was a quality semi-gloss paint that was properly applied and cured for 7 months prior to using the blue original painter's tape. Would I ever use Scotch painter's tape again? Absolutely NOT. Spend the extra $ and purchase Frog Tape.

I had some issues with paint running underneath the tape, maybe that was my fault but it sure seemed like I ran my hands along each section to make sure it was adhered correctly. Also, I had some issues where it would tear instead of peel off and needed to use tweezers to remove all the little pieces. This was with the tape being installed less than 8 hours before removing. Otherwise it worked well and as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes! While doing a painting project using this tape (which by the way it was perfect and saved me much time) I wondered how to display the many Christmas cards I had received. My management does not allow nails in walls. Here is the best for cards: just make a loop and affix to the card and then to wall. Yes! No marks or mess. I thank you much!

The tape is literally falling off the edges I've just applied it to. They've got all these specialty tapes out now, and at least for #2093, it can't even perform a basic function of sticking. Terrible quality, not useful, frustrating experience. Do not recommend.

Ive used other painters tapes but have not found another tape worthy of using again. Sticks when its supposed to and removes properly. Other tapes have tried have added hours to my clean up and work day. This is the tried and True the one and only painters tape. I would not use any others again.

I believe its the green color. draw back is you cant leave the green on as long as the blue. 1.88 is great for taping off and using a roller. if you need to tape off a curved area go with the thinner tape.

The tape was very user friendly when unrolling and putting into place so I'll give it two stars. The problem was that most (about 3/4) of the areas that I put the tape on kept coming undone. I don't know if I should even paint at this point because I don't trust it will stay down. Will not be using this line of product again.
